So, I've been fishing since I was in the 4th grade. My buddy that taught me to fish taught me a knot, I've have been using it ever since, So, I move to TX, guy a fish with at work, uses some other knot, I watched him tie it a couple times, but just seemed too involved....

Question is, are you still using the same knot you learned on, or have you changed to a different one?

The first knot I learned to tie was an improved clinch knot, and later I learned to tie a blood knot and a dropper loop. Those three knots were all I needed for 20 years or so until braided lines became more common.

I've since switched to the uni-knot for line to tackle connections. I use a spider hitch knot for single dropper loop applications.

Improved clinch is the first knot I learned. I rarely use it anymore. I fish a lot of braided line and it won't hold in it. Palomar knot is now my go to knot.

Improved cinch, shrimper's knot and Palomar. I use the Palomar mostly but sometimes my fingers don't want to do it.

The shrimper's knot is a double square knot, in case you were scratching your heads.

Hmmm, I have been using the improved clinch knot for 30 years, tried some different knots, didn't like them and ultimately just stayed with the improved clinch, even with braid...which I use a lot...for bigger fish, not my first choice though when using braid. If I could ever figure out the Palomar, I would probably use it a lot...

Palomar is one of the easiest knots to tie.

Double up your line.

Run it through the eye.

Tie a simple overhand knot.

Pass the lure through the loop in the doubled up line.

Tighten up.

The improved clinch not has served me well since my grandfather taught it to me those many years ago. I do not remember it failing me. At the present I tie the Palomar mostly now. It is a simpler knot to tie in my opinion and it has never failed me either. Now the dropper loop is another story. I have watched utube videos endlessly and just can not tie it consistently. It is very frustrating.

Palomar knot 98% of the time. The other 2% go to my catfish hooks which get the snell knot. I have never had any problems with them since I learned them many years ago.

I have been using the improved clinch for more than 30 years and never had any issues. The only time I ever changed up was the 3 years I was stationed in ND. I used the palomar knot with braided line and a 3-6" steel leader for Northern Pike because their teeth would cut the line. Even then I would sometimes tie on lures with the improved clinch out of habit without any issues.

I've learned many knots over the years and after bench testing them for strength, then decide on whether to incorporate them into my game. Current baseline:

Hook to leader: San Diego jam knot but many situations require a loop knot and for that Lefty's is the one

Leader to leader: triple surgeons in the field and blood knots on the table

leader to mainline: triple surgeons in the field, nail knot on the table.

Situation knots: dropper loops, albright, and bimini twist

Been fishing the same knot my father taught me 50 years ago. Worked great then, still works now. Amen on the improved clinch.

Loop swoop and pull!!!

Learned the improved clinch 30 years ago and been using it ever since. I use a palomar every now and again though.

Palomar, except for snelling circle hooks. I've tried to tie other knots, but they all turn into variations of the Gordian.

Grew up on the improved clinch, still a good knot.
I learned the Palomar when braided lines came out and never went back.
Still use the improved clinch for jigs with very small eyes or usually a loop knot, so the lure hangs horizontal.
Line to line, Surgeons knot. Never had one fail. Ever.
