If you are not a bass tournament junkie this will not interest you...

These FLW guys are currently 1, 2 & 3 in the BASS Southern Opens: Stetson Blaylock, Mark Rose and Brad Knight. Inside the Top 20 you have: Jacob Wheeler, John Cox, Mark Daniels Jr and Wesley Strader. Other FLW names fishing the Southern Opens (in order of standings): Matt Stefan, Brandon Cobb, Scott Canterbury, Anthony Gagliardi, Shin Fukae and JT Kenney.

Which guys will switch upon qualification to the BASS Elite tour? Will BASS kick more poor performers to the curb over (down) to FLW to make room for these anglers or increase the field size? Does FLW try and do something different to retain anglers or ignore it? Is there more than a rumor that the two tours will combine with the Elite being the top level and FLW pros are trying to get moved over (up) now? If so, why arent Morgan, Thrift and Martin competing in the Opens?

I think the elites spots are more sought after and easier to get sponsor money . Bass does have a system to remove bottom performers yearly. Somewhere around 80th in AOY AND lower put you in jeopardy.(off the top of my head)

I think the younger guys will be looking to make the jump. I became a fan of John Cox last year, with his shallow only strategy. Now with his recent win and 1st place in AOY standings, I hope he makes the jump. Although he needs to do better in the Opens, would love to see him do the classic.

A few guys from FLW qualify and move to the elites just about every year. This year it was Adrian Avena, Clent Davis, Chad Grigsby, Luke Clausen, and Dave Lefebre. BASS eliminates something like 5-10 low-performing elites every year. Once you have the sponsorship money to run the tour long term, the Elites is where you want to be. FLW is more forgiving on the pocket book for the young guys.

For big name FLW guys like Thrift, Martin, Morgan...they have always been FLW team guys and I'm just guessing they get paid a little more than the "average" team guy as long as they'll stay with FLW.

I think one of the big reasons is the FLW was only 6 tournaments, they are adding 2 invitational tournaments this year though. Several of them would like to fish both the Tour and Elites but usually have tournaments scheduled on top of each other. I think Thrift and Morgan have team deals with FLW that keep them only fishing the FLW and Martin has his TV show so probably 6 tournaments is enough for him.

Provided anglers fish all 3 events in each region they are in the bassmasters classic if they win an event that for some is a huge opportunity for them and their sponsors, there has been some major crossovers to the elites for different reasons some being sponsors wanting the guys to be able to showcase them by using their own boats and wearing their colors on the final days. Some of that has changed per FLW. Quite a few team flw guys have switched to the Elite series like Jason Christy Randall Tharp David Walker Justin Lucas Brent Ehler and recently Luke Clauson to name a few those guys were big guns with FLW . Many elite anglers fish the opens for the classic opportunity the win and you are in the clasic no longer applies to Elite events Also some guys just want to fish more events.

Wesley Strader had to pull out of the Toyota Texas Bass Classic this year because he has to fish all three of the opens. If he doesn't, he can't fish the Classic next year.

Stetson Blaylock is young and a very strong consistant angler Justin Lucas was a roomate and traveling partner along with Cody Meyer for Stetson, I think he would do well on the Elites he has a long career ahead of him and will do well on which ever path he travels.

They should all switch to Golf if they want to make real money.

Martin has won 2.2 million in 15 years according to his site and is the number 2 money maker there. I can see why he wouldn't want to leave.

Mark Rose and Scott Martin can fish the trail of their choice. I'm guessing they're on the FLW side because they're incentivized to be there. If they jump, Wheeler, Meyer, Lucas + the mainstays will carry that tour. Cody and Justin are supported by two of the prettiest, nicest young ladies on tour. They win! thumb
