Howdy all.

Been awhile since we have posted anything on our fishing blog and it seemed fitting to post something after reading Spacemonkey's forum thread on the PK. Thought we would share what we have learned over the past several months.....hope you enjoy the post and if you do, please subscribe!

Thanks FWBanger!

Kayak fly fishing at Fort Worth Nature Center & Preserve tomorrow morning. Hadn't been there since mid year last year; should be a great day!

Great article! It has been nice to see the striper back in the river. Back in 2008 there were some monsters in there. It was not uncommon to catch several 30" plus in a day. The drought years and the algae blooms did a number on them.

It did not occur to me the other day since I did not witness the behavior as you did but the stripers swimming on the surface acting weird generally means oxygen depravation.

Did anyone have any luck this fall catching any monsters over 30"? I didn't fly fish it much since I spent the fall duck hunting!

I caught this 32" in sept 2008 on a pencil popper!

Nice fish!! We caught several 25+" and some in the low 30" range this past fall. Hopefully we can have a repeat this year!

Time to play elsewhere I suppose.

Yeah I posted in the other thread. The biologists said it was low oxygen levels and not golden algae.

Makes sense. A couple weeks ago I saw what a yakker said were a bunch of carp all schooled up and sorta gulping air on the top. It was weird. At first I thought they were bass/stripers feeding on the top but the yakker could get a little closer and he thought they were carp. Maybe some were striper.

Sad deal.

Yeah I saw that up by the dam. Literally looked like 50 or so carp at the surface. There was an insect hatch at the time and it appeared to me they were feeding on the insects though. Maybe they were after air.

I didn't catch hardly anything that day so I guess the fish were just inactive do to low o2. I'm gonna try and get back out soon and see if things have changed any

Kind of thinking.....unless there is a flow from the dam, there won't be much change. I bet PK is going to hold on to as much water as possible going into the summer, so I doubt we see anything coming out unless there is a toad floater and the dam is maxed out. Just my $0.02.

Yeah they won't release much I'm sure. Their normal daily release just to keep water moving down the river is around 100 to 125 cfs. Currently they are at 125.

During summer and drought times they will drop to 50cfs. Unless we get good spring rains it will do nothing but drop from here on out.

Great info. Came to Texas from Colorado after being a trout bum my whole life, so I knew next to nothing about Striper fishing. Very good info source based on my limited experience. Really fun fish to target though. Next time you and Knuckles get out, let me know for sure. I'm in Fort Worth, but I'm willing to go just about anywhere for good fishing. Don't have a lot of fishing buddies down here and I'm always ready to learn from people who really know what the lay of the land and are willing to give me tips on all these new fish that I'm not used to.
