All of our poles are Ugly Sticks for bass. Getting into cat fishing now. What's a good rod and reel combo for the money.

I would buy better bass rods and use the ugly sticks for catfish.

You don't need a bass rod to catch bass and a catfish rod to catch catfish and a whitebass rod to catch whitebass and a redfish rod to catch redfish.
Any number of very affordable rod/reel combos can easily handle all of the above. Your ugly sticks will do fine.

I like my ugly sticks catfish special 7' medium heavy...cheap, sensitive, with a strong backbone...just switched over from bass rods which have worked great for the last 30 years but cost a hell of a lot more than my ugly sticks...got mine on Amazon prime for $38 delivered in 2 days...boom!

If you're going to be fishing for bass and channel cats this is a fairly decent affordable setup that will put both in the boat.

If you're wanting a dedicated catfishing rig this will get you started.

For channels and eater fish I use the Mitchell 300 spinner on a Berkley Shock Series Lightning rod Med with 35 lb braid. For bigger cats I use 7.5' ugly stiks with an old Diawa millionaire and also a Bass Pro Catmax reel. Both these reels will handle the big ones. 65 lb braid. I also like the Penn 209 combos for trolling but don't own any right now. That is about to change as soon as my old boat is sold. Never been a big fan of Garcia since all I have ever owned didn't last a year. Drag system failed on every one.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!
