Hey guys, I'm a 19 year old kid been fishing all my life but Ive just recently got into actual bass fishing. I basically suck lol. I work nights and try to fish for a few hours at least 3 or 4 times a week during the day in the ponds in my neighborhood. From what I've been reading, the best way to really learn is to join a club as a non boater since I don't have a boat. Im not really sure if that's right but since I'm not really that great at fishing would they just laugh me out or what? Or should I try and find someone who would just kind of show me what's what and how to really fish? Any suggestions yall have are always appreciated. Thanks yall. -Jordan

not sure where you're from, but Ray Roberts is my home lake. You're always welcome to go with me. I fish most every wednesday, weather permitting. Let me know if that is in your neighborhood and want to go. I'm no professional, but I'm happy to share what I have learned from others.

I have very limited experience with bass clubs so I can't really offer any advice there. Best of luck.

To those suggesting clubs, can you explain how these clubs work? Is it just like a big group of people who all go fishing together or is there some sort of structure? Thanks yall

Are you me? Im 19 and work nights as well as suck at bass fishing. A kayak really improved my game though, or at least the motivation to get out more often because there's more water you can cover.

Don't worry about being new to bass fishing and people laughing at you. Everyone started from where your at. Everyone had to learn from casting to driving a boat.

Thanks,

Join a club, any club because you never stop learning in a club. You will draw a different boater every time and can learn how to or how not too do a certain technique.

Here's my two cents. You need to find a mentor, although joining a bass club may be a good way to do that. A lot of bass clubs tend to be tournament focused. Nothing wrong with that, but without a mentor it could be a slow and ineffective way to learn the ropes. A good mentor can teach you in a year what might otherwise take you a decade. Finding them is the trick.

The idea of getting a kayak is a great idea. You can fish a couple hours a day at any lake you want. When you feel comfortable with yourself ask the kayak guys if you can tag along. Club guys tend to be into winning, and don't normally share much info.

I joined a club almost 25 years ago and got several mentors by doing that. I still have a few them today!

I would definitely suggest going out with a few people first and maybe even fishing a team tournament with someone so you can get accustomed to what it is like if you decide to be a tournament fisherman. Going straight into a club to fish tournaments without some practice or previously learning tournament fishing could be really tough, and i think it would make it hard to learn from who ever you draw that week. What area do you live in? maybe i could be of some help
