both are good, and will last a long time. many folks have brought all the fancy ones to the cleaning table...these are proven, and best price.

True, more time fishing than cleaning. Picked up the Black & Decker. Performed very well yesterday night. Wind was stupid crazy, fish didn't mind!

I use the Berkley knife from WalMart. Works pretty good but looking to upgrade.

Found this cordless knife.

I agree just bought 2 yesterday on sale a Walmart for 11.95 each. These are the best and you cannot beat the price. You cannot buy replacement blades so this is basically a throw away item at the end of its life. Great deal and works like a charm on crappie and bass.

If you'll get a good SS filet knife that has a thin flexible blade on it that will take a razor edge, take a little time to practice using it and you'll say goodbye to electric knives forever. Keep in mind I'm talking about a good knife, not a cheap one with a CS blade on it. Only down side is they sharp and will take a finger off if your not paying attention.

You don't need power, you don't need replace dull wore out blades that are either difficult or impossible to find, they don't have a motor that will get hot or burn out if you don't rest it, and with a little patience and practice is every bit as fast or faster than an electric with brand new blades. And maybe most important they don't butcher a fish up because your using a dull azz blade.

I have several that I either bought or were given to me and I wouldn't trade any of them for any electric I have ever seen sold in stores, including the $30 Bubba I got for a birthday present about 5 years ago. Its not the best one out there but its not bad either, still better than an electric.

What brand fillet knife do you have? I have gone through several Rapalas. No complaints but I want to upgrade. Thought about a Wusthof but they are pricey!

Yep they good, I have a 9' Wusthof, great knife I think its the GP series. I have a couple of old Bucks, they are good ones too. My favorites are a couple of custom Tolar's that I got on a trip to Alaska several years ago.

Thanks 2259. I have an electric fillet knife, but I was taught to honor the animal or fish by not wasting any meat. So I will typically fillet a fish manually and then use the electric knife to take off the skin since that's easier for me. That takes more time but that's OK with me. I have friends that just use the electric and it's a lot faster, but that leaves too much meat on the bones. I think with a Wusthof I can probably do it all manually.

they are not doing it correct, many folks clean very close with the electric knife, I am not a meat waster, by no means...

I have several different filet knives, both electric and human powered. I always seem to drift back to my good ol' sharp blades, but I do enjoy keeping all of my knives very sharp (which helps a lot). Last year I picked up a Bubba Blade filet knife and so far have been very impressed. I always hit it with a hone right before using, and haven't needed to put it on the bench sharpener yet.

With all of that being said, I don't know what the best electric filet knife is. But the in the discussion of electric vs human powered knives, it comes down to whether or not you will maintain your knife. If you're just going to throw it in a kitchen drawer where the blade will be exposed to harm, just buy an electric knife. When the blades get dull go buy another. If you will care for your knife and protect it's edge, buy the best knife you can afford and learn how to sharpen and care for it and you will be very happy.

I have a custom filet knife, made by Helle if I remember correctly. My boss gave it to me a couple of years ago for Christmas. It is so nice I'm actually scared to use it. Just can't bring myself to get it dirty.

However, I am very happy to spend $20 on a knife that will clean over 1,000 fish (my last one did), and never have to give it any more attention than cleaning the blades afterward.

It's all personal preference though.

What is the scoop with the Cutco Fillet knife? Good, bad? I had two given to me and have yet to use them. I still like the Dexter Russell fillet knife, and I use that blue and white Mr Twister electric a lot and it has been pretty good.
