Bad news there must've been an algae bloom or something because there were lots of big dead stripers below PK dam this morning all the way down to Flint bend. I must've seen more than 50 !

Yeah, I saw a bunch of dead/dying stripers last weekend. I was pitching them on shore for the buzzards to enjoy. Sad to see so many nice game fish dying. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Seems way to early to be an algae bloom. The water is still fairly cold.

D@&. Anyone call tpwd yet? I would think it's still too cold as a well but then again we did not have a winter. How was really hoping all the rolling water would have flush the river and we would be free from this nightmare for a while. Any pictures?

I saw this happen earlier in the fall after a big quick release. It always irks me when this happens...

We saw this happen in the fall as well. Noticed quite a few big dead striper on the bottom this past weekend and a couple that just didn't act right in the head. Literally, swimming at the surface and coming right to us. Water temp is pretty warm too.

Saw a few trailing black bass as we got them to the boat and a large number of dead ones laying on bottom. Was wondering why there were so many dead ones.

Tpwd was called yesterday by a friend of mine. They told him it was unlikely algae because the water temps are still cool enough, but they were supposed to send out a biologist yesterday to see. They said it could be due to fertilizer runoff as well. They said they would call him back and let him know. I'll post an update if we hear anything.

Well it's not an algae bloom or fertilizer runoff. Tpwd biologist said it was probably lack of oxygenated water from the slow release and the river turning over. I guess it's good and bad. Good it's not algae or fertilizer, but bad the big stripers are still dying

I was down there Sunday and saw a ton of dead fish as well, mostly striper. I actually did a study on golden algae in college, and could see it wasn't a bloom, so I figured it probably had to do with dissolved oxygen or water temp. I saw a bunch of other fish that seemed healthy, so my thought was that those cold-loving striper were just getting too warm because of the minimal releases. Interesting to hear that it's low oxygen levels, and makes you wonder if it will start to kill off other fish as well.

Yeah I wonder about that too. Seems odd only the striper seem affected. Maybe they require more oxygen?

Tuesday when I last fished very little was biting. I guess low oxygen levels make them less active.
