Any feedback? Looking for a 1000 to use for UL and L rod(s) and a 2500 for ML. Main use inshore/freshwater.

Might use the larger reel on occasion for Redfish, etc. - would a 3000 have any advantage?

Handled the Ci4+ but thinking the FK is my preference.

Also, anyone know of better prices than ebay?

Thanks.

I have the 2500FK. Chose it over the Ci4 without price being a consideration and couldn't be happier! Most solid feeling spinning reel I have ever had. I have an Abu Revo SX and it's a great reel but the Stradic is a cut above.

I fish the Ci4 in both 1000 and 2500 and I couldn't be happier. The only reason I went w the Ci4 is because of supposed better resistance to corrosion for inshore. Both run with 20# Power Pro Super Slik and are the best fishing spinners I have ever used.

The new FK design is certainly a beautiful reel. I wouldn't hesitate getting them at all!

Here's a couple of links - one for each reel. You can kind of compare this way. The FK is more resistant to corrosion/water intrusion than the CI4. One reason why is they did away with the lever on the reel for back reeling. There are a few other bells and whistles than the CI4 but I'm with Ram4bass...you can't go wrong either way and eBay probably has the best price.

I got both kinds in the sizes you listed, like them both...the ARB bearing are the bomb, regardless of the environment...the non-ARB require a little extra care in salt....got one that is noisy...of course too many wade fishing trips in high wind, chest high...

The 3000 will handle a bit more line...not much weight/performance difference.

My opinion...you are looking at the right reels...Shimano, best you can buy for the money, hands down...if you by new, get the ARB version...if used, get whatever good deal is out there...If you can wait until the sales start, buy up....I prefer the stratics, but the Sedona levels are very dependable reels...got too many reels to buy the Stella's, but if I was a one rod/reel guy...it would have a Stella on it...Hope this information helps.

Great info Guys! Thanks much!

So I have been using Pflueger President 6920 and 6925, as well as the Supreme MG in 25/30 and just sold a 35 only b/c I did not use it. I like all my Pfluegers, but the Shimano seems to be a touch better in smoothness, and I like the fast ratio on the 1000, which you often have to get to a 30 size to have 6:1 or better, most of the 20/25s I have seen have 5.2:1 or so.

I fish for hours on end, and it seems I would have a tad less fatigue reeling a faster ratio reel. Yes/no? Thoughts?

It sounds like many users are thumbs up on the FK. The Ci4+ does seem nice, very light, but the FK is good in the weight and a few users of the Ci4/+ have said they may not be as tough. I did read they may be coming out with a new model of the latter, this year. It will be interesting.

Yes, some of the other Shimano's are pretty nice ie Sedona/Sahara but I feel like to get a noticeable gain over what I own now, I may need to step up to the Stradic. If anyone has a 3000 and wants to give feedback please do.

Price is high on these, and the other issue I have wondered about, how will I adjust to not having a "reverse" switch/feature. I often use it to remove tension if a rod has been bumped too tight and bending the rod when not in use and the lure is secured.

Thanks all for your feedback, any others welcome to chime in! Thanks again!

Dang it! This thread had me curious...so I went to BP to check out the new FKs. I currently have two Ci4s....now I really want an FK! The Ci4s are awesome, but the new FKs just feel great . They are not as light, but the gearing seems smaller and the 3000 feels like a 2500. I'm thinking of picking one up in 4000 and pairing it with either a TFO inshore or the new G. Loomis EX6.

I didn't think I'd like it better than the Ci4, but it looks like a winner! And cheaper to boot!

Plus 1...

Nothing wrong with high speed line retrieval...it incites a reaction bite, when nothing else is working.

I like my 3000...but I don't notice any real difference (seat of the pants wise) between it and the 2500, other than maybe a bit more capacity, which would only be a big deal if you got spooled.

Also, the Symetry is a nice reel, although not as nice as the Stratics, if your budget is constrained from say multiple purchases of the stratics. The Pfleuger Presidents that you use are initially comparable in smoothness, but over time they will break down faster, given the same level of care. If you take good care of them, they will last a decent amount of time. I bought several of them, in various sizes...I currently only have one left working, and it sounds so bad, I just won't use it anymore. That said, I don't spend any time caring for my reels, other than in a salt environment.

The thing about Shimanos, is that Shimano is a gear manufacturer that decided to build reels, none of the other reel company's can say that. Accordingly, Shimano makes their gears from stronger metal stock, and to closer tolerances, than do other reel company's that buy their components from 3rd party vendors. Plus, they have a thing about good bearings. Any way you cut it, the shimanos from the Sedona level up are really good, smooth, long lasting reels...Get some use them, over time you should be impressed. I have tried every reel I thought might be any good or better than Shimanos, and there are some that are good, they just won't stand the test of time, like the Shimano will.

I have a couple 4000 Stratics, as well...I don't need them often, but hey, I caught them on sale, and they are solid performers, when, I need them.

Good info, yes, I am running jigs in shallow water for spawning Crappie, over grass beds, sometimes they have to be run very fast, and it does induce strikes at times when they won't hit much on say a jig under a cork. So....I have a purpose for the fast ratio in a UL/L type reel.

Yes, the Shimano's seem to have a good reputation, and I will have to get my hands on one wink

Appreciate the input.

Thanks Jason. Are you using them for fresh or saltwater? Both? Thanks.

Just freshwater but the oldest one is about 6 years old and let me tell you i have fished the reel hard. My son caught a 37lb grass carp on it by accident the reel handled it with no problem. I fish them on a 7ft bps carbonlite rod great set up. The drag is super smooth and the line propulsion on the spool allows for super long cast. I use sufix 832 braid. Its bulletproof
