Any stories or reports to go along with the results? How many people fished? How was the fishing in general?

Fishing was a little slow because the lake was very muddy and falling. Most fish were caught very shallow on soft plastics it seemed like. It was another large crowd with the beautiful weather. The adults did an awesome job of bringing kids to fish.

We had 811 entries that weighed in 328 bass. There were two 3.00 lbers and two 4.00 lbers that won a Dobyns rod. One of the 3.00 bass was caught by Kathleen Fuller, wife of last years Tournament Winner Steve Fuller. She's wearing her lucky KCKL Tournament fishing hat from the 17th Annual event back in about 2000. We found a brand new 2000s era hat in the archives and presented it along with her Dobyns rod.

Talked to Steve and Kathleen at the motel Saturday night. While they didn't catch a really big one this year, Kathleen's 3.00 came from the same location as Steve's Tournament winning catch last year. Bet they will hit that spot again next year!

Special thanks to sight fisher (Clifford) who handled the Youth Door Prizes. He obtained enough sponsor products for every Youth angler to receive a Door Prize worth over $50 and had signed jerseys and caps from Todd Faircloth, Keith Combs, Anthony Gagliardi and more. Lots of happy kids and they weighed in some fish too.

Here's the group that fished Sunday

One of the unique things about this Tournament is the staff that works so hard to put it on. Most are family and long time friends who have been around the Tournament for many years. In fact, most of the staff have been working the Tournament from 20 to all 33 years (if they are old enough).

The KCKL 95.9 FM Big Bass Tournament was started in 1984 (a year before the first McDonalds tournament) by my dad, Fred McBurney and Ed Routt, the owner of the brand new KCKL radio station at Cedar Creek Lake. Beginning with that first tournament, myself and Pat Isaacson, the then General Manager at the station were the majority of the Tournament staff doing everything Fred and Ed told us to. Both dad and Ed passed in the 90s, but Pat and I were determined to carry on in their honor and tradition. In time our kids became involved working for less than minimum wage. On the kcklbass.com/tournament-history web site page there is a pic of my then 10 year old daughter playing with a frog an angler caught and brought to weigh-in. Sometimes they didn't know they were "working" as they did things like releasing fish. She's 31 now and has added two grandkids "helping" with Tournament weekend. Pat's kids and grandkids are also involved in putting on the Tournament. As Director I really appreciate their dedication to continuing this family reunion fishing tournament.

And this past weekend I had my newest staff member helping me "inspect" the 1st Prize boat. Four generations of my family have now been involved in the event.

33 events and counting. Not too many continuous open Tournaments that are older.

RIP dad & Ed.
