I went out to Buescher State Park with a fellow fly club member on Sunday. We fly fished for sunfish and bluegill from the kayaks.
Buescher is one of my favorite lakes to fish. It is a very small lake with no motorized vehicles. It is very similar to Lake Raven. Both have very big bass and big bluegill populations and are easy to cover in a kayak.
The bite was slow and I think the recent cold front had pushed them back a bit deeper. I tried a number of different flies and ultimately ended up using a size 12 yellow briminator.
I caught only 4 bluegill, 1 bass and a redear but one of the bluegill was big enough to submit for a water body record.
It was 9.5 inches long and weighed 0.70 lbs.
