OK so I have been poking around here for a little while and posting occasionally. It got me to thinking, I seem to have a good bit of gear that I've acquired the last few years (garage sales, store sales, gifts, etc). It's not high end stuff but it's what I have and I'd like to have a better idea of rod/reel pairings and what techniques/baits I'm equipped for.

Rods
Gander Mountain GMVT66C Medium Heavy 6'6" (casting)
Abu Garcia 3000i Medium 6'6" (spinning)
Quantum XL Graphite QXLG7H Heavy 7'0" (casting)
Abu Garcia "Poppin' Special" Medium Light 7'0" (casting)
Shakespeare Ugly Stick "Catfish" Medium Heavy 7'0" (spinning)
Southbend "Black Beauty 'Muskie'" Heavy 6'0" (casting)
Cherrywood HD Medium 7'0" (spinning)
Rogue MB663 Medium 6'6" (casting)

Reels
Abu Garcia Black Max casting
Pflueger 2000? spinning
Pflueger "Monarch" casting
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500C3
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6500C4
Abu Garcia 5X40 spinning

I know I have a lot of Abu Garcia reels, but I started out catfishing and frankly, for the money, the Ambassadeur reels are hard to beat and last forever!

Also, I may be willing to buy 1 or 2 extra items but be reasonable smile
Thanks in advance for any help!

I know nothing about all the other stuff; but I see a 5500c which I have bass fished with for 50 years. I have 20 of them and they have served me very well. It will take care of many of your needs:
- Top water
- C-Rigs
- T-Rigs
- Fishing the jungle

I would pair it with any of the CASTING rods above. It is a good choice to stay with Ambassadeur. Your 5000 reel will also fill a spot on your list of techniques. You will probably want to purchase one of the new ABS reels for pitching, flipping and casting lighter baits.

Any of your smaller spinning reels can be rigged up for bass fishing and should fill the bill on light drop shot techniques.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.
