Everyone share the good and bad from personal experience. I'm Looking to see what everyone likes and dislikes about all brands of batteries. I also want to know who uses our lithium pros stuff. for those who have used lithium stuff and lead acid stuff please share the difference in each.

I've bought my last set on Interstates. They are at least twice the price and last no longer than Wal-Mart batteries.

Made in USA , not ! Cheap made in Mexico nowadays. I have had better luck with Interstate than any. Make sure to get the right one for the job. One made for trolling and one made for starting. Also I leave both my boats on a 2 bank (pontoon boat with a 12 volt trolling motor ) and my ( bass boat a 3 bank 24 volt trolling motor ) on all the time. Todays maintainers are built not to boil a battery. Just make sure you spend the money and get a good one. And make sure they are vented good so when the weather warms up they don't get hot.

Check the water level at least once of month. Trust me.

IMO, Deep Cycle for TM and electronics, starting battery for big motor, there is a big difference.
Get the right capacity for the load run time you need, the deeper you drain a battery each cycle the less life you can expect to get from a battery. It's recommended for longer life to not drain your battery more than about 50% each use, so bigger is better. A fully discharged 12 volt battery will show aprox 10.5 volts.
Don't let a lead acid battery sit in a discharged state, recharge ASAP after use and your charger is very important. Smart chargers that charge, condition and maintain are well worth the extra $.
Buy good quality batteries the correct size and treat them right, it'll pay off.

I'm not fond of spontaneous extra crispy, so I'll stick with large flooded cell. I don't do Interstate now - terrible experience the last time I attempted that, so I got a bad taste that hasn't gone away.

AGM is the way to go in my humble opinion. Acid cannot leak out of an AGM battery so it is safer for the boat and people. AGM batteries also have lower internal resistance than flooded cell, so more of the alternators power is used for charging the battery instead of being wasted as heat.

I'm not overly concerned with how efficiently the outboard alternator can charge a battery. Many anglers put less than 100 hours per YEAR on an outboard, so how much time they actually get for the alternator to charge is rather small. It's probably more valuable that the alternator be able to carry the load presented by the boat so that the drain on the battery stops at least for the time that the engine is running. This is why outboard manufacturers try to have decent alternator output at lower RPMs as we do use idle speed. For most, the majority of energy transfer via charging happens from an AC receptacle.

If you have not looked into a DC charger, ( one that charges all the batteries when you run the big motor, depending on need ) I would do that also. Allows for the use of cheaper batteries IMO. I also like the AGM batteries, I am not running them at this time, but have in the past, and will do when this set needs to be replaced.

I am not sold on the lithum yet. The cost is to high for me to be a cost benefit. I am sure if I was using my boat 4 or 5 days a week for practice and tourney, there would be an advantage for the increased cycles and fuel savings for weight both running and towing. But I am more in the 6 - 10 times a month, with the exception of Nov-Feb where it may be once or twice, so with using the minn kota digital charger, can get 3-4 years out of a lead cell cheap battery in most cases, and a little more from an AGM.

Most of the batteries mentioned in this thread are made by the same company, Johnson Controls, some made in Mexico and some made in USA. If made in Mexico it's required to have made in Mexico on it somewhere unless that has changed recently.

Got away from Walmart , they did not know the difference between a deep cycle and starting battery , at least the asst. Manager that day , the battery they sold was not holding up well , had bigger problems with Interstate , now I'm buying from Auto Zone , run my boat quite a bit so we will see , biggest thing is warranty and costumer service where ever you purchase , my opinion . Auto Zone has been great for me so far , I keep all my receipts and batteries full of water , distilled water .

Used Interstates for long time. But the more recent ones were giving less and less life even when properly charged and maintained. Fishing buddy had same experience. We both switched over to ACDelco Voyagers and so far have gotten better service life.
