A 4 LB. Yellow bullhead catfish. Caught her on a live minnow at my Uncles farm up in Grayson county. She put up a good fight. She sure is pretty , with that bright yellow color. Released to fight again. Had I caught her on a public water body it would have been a new state record. But alas, the private water body record is 5.60 lbs. I caught a black bullhead out of this pond that was bigger than this yellow a couple of years ago.. it would have qualified I bet. We rarely catch bullheads there.

Chris, he's doing very well for a man his age. Hurt his back the other day removing some T-post. But he's ok.Oddly enough I was just thinking about you about 2 hours ago. And how appropriate that I get a reply from Mudcat on a post about a Mudcat. I'm doing better and better. Yourself?

Thanks guys. She bit the fire out of me when I was taking the hook out. Guess it was a little payback like Rudy got from that bass the other day. roflmao

Great color on that fish! Actually that's a black bullhead with bright yellow coloring. This is just speculation, but I think at spring spawning time their color intensifies, and they develop bright yellow coloring.

You can always tell the black bullhead apart from the other types of bullheads by the bar at the base of the tail. The bar at the base of the tail is absent on the yellow and brown bullhead. Black cats also have grey to black chin whiskers and a very short anal fin.Your fish displays all those characteristics. It's definitely a black bullhead.Yellow bullheads have a much longer anal fin and white chin whiskers.

In Texas the black bull is by far the most common bullhead followed by the yellow bull. I don't think Texas has brown bullheads? If it does, they're very few. Browns are mainly found in the northern and southeastern states.
