So I have been reading about these Hybrids going to spawn up the creeks.

I thought hybrids could not reproduce? If I recall my biology lessons from college... being sterile is part of what it is to truly be a hybrid.

So are these fish just pretending to spawn or are they actually reproducing?

How many are stocked?

I imagine if they cannot successfully spawn on their own tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands would have to be stocked each year to maintain a viable fishery no?

Thanks for entertaining my newbie questions. Last year I spent time learning more about catfish and cat-fishing, this year I want to learn about Hybrids and hopefully catch some more.

I've caught fish on Lewisville that seemed to be 2nd generation hybrids. The available evidence indicates that some small percentage of hybrids are fertile. Even though the majority are not, they still have the appropriate gonads and make the attempt.

Some hybrids ( like some white bass ) go thru the spawning ritual in the lake . They will also
travel downstream if they get a chance ( as in over a spillway ).

It is my belief that they just go thru the motions with some amount of reproduction. I also think they will eventually revert back to a white bass if they continue to reproduce. Click the link to another thread, it was kicked around a lot with several opinions on this.

They go through the motions but don't get the job done.

They do the same as the sandbass but hybrids shoot blanks.

It's been documented. They have a very low percentage of success, but when you are talking about thousands of fish and millions of eggs and billions of sperm, the unlikely becomes a certainty.
