So it's February and your fishing a tournament the next morning in freezing rain. Try a good pair of wading booties instead of hiking boots or whatever else you wear. They are a lot easier on the deck of your boat and I think even give you a little better balance.

I have an old pair of Shimano boots, but just got these in the mail a few weeks ago.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I wear a pair of New Balance lightweight gortex hikers. They are waterproof, wind proof and comfy. If real cold I put a pair of battery operated heated insoles.

Neoprene socks are a good choice as well, but the soles on the wading booties help. You can pick up wading booties at Academy for $20 or $30. I do a fair amount of wade fishing, so I upgraded to the Simms this round.

Are wading booties guaranteed fully waterproof? ...as in all seams sealed, etc.? It would seem that's not needed when the intended user would be wearing stockingfoot waders that are what actually keep feet dry. I'd be concerned for wet feet eventually, or at least lack of perspiration evaporation like you can get with Gore-tex. I also vote for the athletic shoe style with Gore-tex as the solution. Mine have never leaked, and feet don't get balmy like in neoprene.

I been wearing the same style neoprene in winter time, I get mine at BPS it's made by RedHead.

Does excellent in cold/rain. I started also wearing it in the dead of winter for work also, especially if snow or ice

Goretex Timberland here. No need to look like a moon boot just to stay dry.
