I recently bought a new truck that is 4WD and sits higher than my old 2WD, which I didn't have to worry about the hitch dropping down at all. Now that I do, do any of you have suggestions? I need it to have 1 7/8" and 2" ball capability.

Is your truck standard height or does it have a lift? What model vehicle, 3/4 ton will differ form 1/2 ton. Single axel or tandom trailer?

I have a 2015 Sierra 1500 Z71. No lift and 1/2 ton. With the 1 7/8", I pull my 16ft single axle trailer (Jon boat), and with the 2" I tow a tandem trailer and a few different single axle trailers.

Because of the way the trailer was engineered to be towed you simply want it to be level. This is especially true if you have a tandom axle trailer.

What drop down hitches do y'all use? Are the adjustable ones reliable?

Mine is adjustable but I never adjust it now that it is set where I want it. I think mine is a 6" drop at the lowest point...Never had an issue with it

Single axle trailer you won't have to worry as much as long as it's close. I drive a Silverado 2500 Z71 and have a single axel trailer, I use a 3 and 1/4 inch drop for the single axel trailer, also pull a horse trailer with tandem axle and have to use a 5 inch drop. The tongue is lower on the horse trailer.

It all depends on the trailer. You can always buy a receiver and return it for a different size if necessary. I don't know enough about the adjustable receivers to comment there.

I believe you are looking for the magic number of 20" to 22" to bottom of ball hitch. On a known flat piece of concrete, unhitch your trailer, put a chock under the tires, place a level on frame and crank that trailer flat level. Measure from the coupler housing bottom, down to the concrete. See if that doesn't work. Trailer needs to pull flat or level. Dan

Check out the Swivel-Loc's.......I use one with a 6" drop and don't know how I ever got along without it.
