Finally got me a high end spinning setup. What's yall's favorite line for these things? Looking at going with Sunline SX1 braid but want some TFF feedback. Thanks

PS, size 30 reel on a 6'10" MH rod.

Nanofil is only way to go on spinning outfits, it's expensive but saves the headaches later. Trust me on this one and spend the $20.00 now.

I use 15 or 20lb Power Pro Super Slick. It's the best casting line I've ever seen. I can cast a weightless worm 50 yds with a 6'6 rod, using that line on my Lews spinning reel. It's all I use on my two spinning rods.

Power Pro Super Slick

Definitely put this on there, then tie on a flourocarbon leader. I only use this braid now because of it's ability to cast further in the wind. It's a very round braid so it's "slick" on the outside. That keeps it from digging in to your spool, allowing you to get more distance on your cast. I've also noticed that it's very, very strong. This is the best braid I've ever used.

What knot do you like to tie to attach the leader?

I have 4 spinners in the boat, one is a custom by Elite Rods. It started life as a flippen stik blank and got cut down to 6 feet 3 inches with a 13 and 1/2 inch handle. It has the necessary spinning eyes that than go to micro. If you ever did any dock shooting with it, Even a rookie like you would not call a spin rod what you do. I run 40lb. braid on that rig and it earns it's keep. Dan

Well dang, finally found something the TFF brethren and I agree on. Dependent on application I use 20 or 30 pound braid and a leader with an Alberto knot. I find myself leaning more and more toward 20# these days.

I've used Sufix Elite monofilament in 8 lbs. It is very reliable casting from a Shimano Ci4+ reel, so a high quality rather low test mono can be good.

Then, I used Nanofil in about the same test rating . . . never had any issues with it and a really good line choice if you go tiny and need a lighter line for panfish. Nanofil is rather flat, but it does cast well. I never had any knot issues with it but it is slippery.

I now use Sufix 832 Braid in 10 lbs. to an 8 lbs. Seaguar Invzx fluoro leader. For most finesse applications, this is a great combo. If you think braid casts well with 15 or 20 test, wait until you try 10.

And, Sufix has come out with its Nanobraid with very light lines up to 10 lbs. but down to 4 lbs. test. I haven't given it a go yet but it is supposed to be very strong and cast super.

Straight fluorocarbon has its fans but the line is just a bit squirrely to me with some odd coils developing over time. Pros use it for certain applications but they change the line out so often they likely avoid some of the issues.

I have never used a line conditioner but if I did, fluoro would be a likely candidate for it.

If I have my druthers, and certainly since I favor finesse applications, I'd choose spinning tackle over a baitcaster every time! Note, the pros have really moved a bit back in this direction, too.

Brad

I don't personally like the whole leader idea so I go with red label flouro 8-10 pound depending on application... With MH rod i would say go 10 and you'll be fine. Line is great for the price and cheap enough to just spoil the entire real with it and not hassle with a leader all the time. You'll be surprised... You say fairy wand but many times the guys with the fairy wands are the only ones getting the bites... And big bites at that! Just have the drag set correctly for good hook sets...

I really like the Sunline finesse floro. I've tried braid to floro/mono leader. Tried 20' leaders, shorter leaders, with surgeons and crazy Alberto knots, and it works. If you have a great rod, I think straight Sunline finesse is hard to beat. I use 6 lb for dropshot amd 8 for everything else. Good luck!
