Going camping there on Saturday. Anyone ever fished their lake? Any advice on the boats they rent?

Fished it a few times. Very clear lake. You can catch tons of 10 inchers.

Der is correct... Very clear water unless there's been a heavy rain. I've fished it for many years off and on being from Tyler but now residing outside of Dallas. It hasn't been as good to me as it has in the past but there's a lot of good fish to be had. There's some big en's in there too. It's been there a very long time and they stock it with trout every year.

The best areas for me have been from the boat rental area to the swimming area. You can fish it up to the bank or out deep especially at the point. Work it really thorough and you'll get bit. Also, there's a pier across the main lake from there. Fish just to the left of it all the way down the bank to the point and up into the pocket. Lots of good fish there. That pocket is a very shallow flat and you may see some on beds there. Also, since we're in the spawning season go way back to where the bridge is. There's a hug flat there and a channel running along the bank to the right facing the bridge.

It's a grassy lake so weedless is the way to go. I've always done well with a Crig. I've also done well with pearl flukes.

I hooked a fish one time that literally ripped my rod out of my hands. The grooves in the bullet weight looked liked I dragged it down a old country road. I don't know how I missed her but I know it was a monster. I'll never forget it.

Rent a canoe and ask them to let you keep it overnight. That's what I use to do and fish at night. They will hear you coming a mile away in the paddle boats.

Good luck and let me know how you did if you wouldn't mind. Not long ago there were a couple of 13lbers caught from there.

The couple times I have been have been pretty good. Green pumpkin senko worked well.

Mayo pretty much hit the nail on the head. I'm from Lindale which is just a few miles out and have fished that lake often. Tons of small fish but also a lot of big ones.

To add to what Mayo said, suspending jerk baits and deep cranks have been great off the point. Lost a giant once off the point using a Norman DD22. Senkos seem to always put numbers in the boat but if you want a chance at a truly big bass then your best bet is to go with something that's very realistic. Swimbaits have produced some giants out of that lake. As stated, it's an incredibly clear lake (for Texas) and I've usually done best by using realistic or reaction. Just my experience.

No matter what, it's a beautiful park so enjoy your time.

TSP was tough for me yesterday and today. We rented a two-person kayak for my 6yo daughter and I. I got 7 bites on weightless Senkos in watermelon/black flk and watermelon/red/black flk. All with tails dipped chart. Missed all 7 bites. It is a different experience fishing in a kayak with a paddle and no help from the front seat! I solidified by opinion that fishing without a trolling motor sucks! I wish I would have at least had an achor.

The lake was nice. A little muddy from the recent rains, but I can see it being really fun to fish from a small boat where you can stand up. I read that they regularly stock the lake with trout, so I spent some time throwing a 7 swimbait around the dam.

I appreciate everyones advice. Matt
