Purchasing a Hummingbird 597 CI HD today, but there is no chip. Is the Lakemaster chip for Oklahoma and Texas compatible with this unit? I did not see it on the Navionics compatibility chart, but since it is made by a different manufacturer, then that explains it? I am looking for the cheapest card I can buy for Oklahoma and Texas lakes.

Pros and cons of each card if you have one please...

Lake Master is what I use on my Humminbird. I also mounted my I-Pad and downloaded the Navionics App. I make my I-Phone a WIFI and connect my I-Pad to it. That way I have the best of both worlds. At the end of the day I generally do not see much difference between the two. It just allows me to see something without always having to sit in one spot to view mapping.

Just downloaded the Navionics App on my phone. Going to try it out this weekend. My question about it is does it work even if you cant get a signal at the lake you are on? Can you download a lake map for use while you are there? And does it show your actual position on the lake map as you move using GPS on your iPhone and boat?

$10/$15 a year is a heck of a deal on lake maps for the entire United States for major lakes. Much cheaper than buying the lake maps individual on paper and then having them blow out of the boat, tear, etc...

And I am assuming that after the first year, you can get the App updated?

I have the same question as Dan-O bout being able to use the app for actual navigation while on the lake.

Lakemaster is wonderful. Highly recommend it.

I have both Navionics and LakeMaster. They each show a chart, but there are differences and more details is a good thing. I run Nav on the helm and LM on the bow.

I have both. I run an older 797 (?) and the Lakemaster is good for detail, BUT sometimes it is TOO MUCH detail and it is very slow to REFRESH as you run down the lake. Even on my new 998.

Yes, it works for actual navigation, but could see it being dangerous if you're actually running on pad and looking down at a small phone screen. Then again, some of the phone screens are as big as some gps units.

Fantastic. I am going to be using it for some remote places on Sam Rayburn. Thank you for the info.

I have lake master. I like the features but you have to look at the lakes that you fish. Many are hd maps and have 1ft contour lines. Unfortunately, I mainly fish Joe Pool and that is not an hd map so it doesn't give me as much detail as I would like.

I've used the navionics phone app. It works good and has good detail just a little more difficult using it on a phone compared to the ff

You can use the Webapp to check out the mapping available through Navionics for Joe Pool, it will be the same level of detail that the Phone app shows with all of the app add-ons that are available. So if you like the amount of detail on the webapp or phone app, the same data can be bought on a sd card for your chartplotter.
On the phone or tablet app, you can use the app for Navigation even if you dont have a service as long as the lake is downloaded to the app before you loose a signal. IF the lake is there, then it will run off the gps on your phone without a problem.

I prefer Lake Master for Humminbird, the additional features make it an excellent fit. Lake level adjust is great with the lake fluctuation.

+1 and also for my ipilot link. I'm actually going to buy Navionics to go along with my Lake Master. They both have their pros and cons and the ability to switch seems like a no brainer to me.

Can you buy Navionics via internet download for Humminbird ? Or do you have to buy the packaged software?
