Hit two spots at Las Colinas this morning before the "storms"(very brief drizzles that barely got the street wet!), and found at one site, bed after bed of spawning bass, some with huge fish on them some already empty or not yet occupied, for about a 200 yd stretch of shoreline! No takers! Casting out, thinking some post spawners might be hanging out, only got me a channel cat in the 5 lb range. Wrestled him out of water, slung him up on bank, and fumbled for the camera phone. He managed to slip the rooster tail out, and being the slimy critter he is, managed to slither back into the water before I could grab him again and get the photo!
Just could not buy a bass bite, so went to another spot at LC, where the water was much clearer, and I could see plenty of bass on beds. Still no takers, so what else, switch tactics. Went to a 1/32nd oz tube jig on an UNPAINTED JIG HEAD, using a tricolor hollow body tube, got three of the following 4 off beds just dropping the jig directly onto the bed and barely twitching it enough to incite action by the fish on the bed. Worked like a charm!
T-fly texted me that the barometer was a bit low but holding so I should do ok, and I ended up with 10. The four in the pics were caught on the crappie jigs, and I got 6 more, finally, on a rooster tail.
