Went fishing both Sat and Sun on Lake Belton up both Owl Creek and Cedar Creek. Nothing caught except a few fingerling bass. Used both minnows and jigs. Just wondering, has the spawn already happened, is it still to come or has the lake rising 5', then lowered to 1.5 ft above conservation level just screwed it up? Still hoping to catch a few up shallow, then will be ready to move to the brush piles.

The spawn from what I have seen has not gotten into full swing yet for the most part. This weird weather has been messing with them.

I wish more would respond to this, but I think most are just unsure. I have been having the same problem on eagle mountain. I catch 1-4 per trip. The best I have done is 8 and have been skunked a few times. The fish I have caught are in 13-15 FOW (can't find them shallow). Females are loaded with eggs and they are loose. In years past I was catching a ton at this time. I guess time will tell.....

Spawn is only getting started. Falling lake levels have made finding fish up shallow very difficult; Belton is falling with gates still open. I've had very limited success on Belton. But it's still early in the spring.

I've been fishing Placid (in Seguin for you DFWers) once a week for the last month or so since the water temps got into the 60s and it's just not happening for me up shallow. Seems like when we have some stable weather, rain and/or a cold front will come through.
Went out today and the best I did in any spot was 4 off a brush pile in about 12 FOW.

It is just getting started here, according to carcus surveys

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
