I'm in the market to get a newer boat. I have found two skeeters both are 2011 year models one has a sho and the other is a hpdi. Which one would you prefer. Both have around 220 hrs.

I would go with the SHO. I have a 250 on my boat and love it so far.

SHO 4 Stroke and uses no oil with each tank of gas, just change out one or two times a year. HPDI (2 Stroke) does. Price the Oil. I think the fuel economy will also be better with the SHO. The SHO is now a better Reliable Engine than in the past. I would seriously consider that option.
But you did ask for our Opinions between the 2 options.

HPDI's have a terrible reputation.

IF I had to choose between those.... I would go with the SHO

I sold a 2011 SHO with 347 hours on it, and it performed flawlessly. I have owned HPDI's and currently own a 2013 SHO and love it !! My recommendation is the SHO.

I also have a 2011 250 SHO and it has been flawless. I did get the letter from Yam saying they were going to replace the powerhead but I have until May 2017 to get it done.

Ask the seller if he did the same.

I have an HPDI but if I get another boat it will have a 4 stroke so SHO would be my pick between the two.

I've got the HDPI. I've had zero problems. Great engine, but definitely likes oil! It's not as pricey as folks make it out to be. It's 30 bucks a gallon online and unless you are putting an insane number of hours on your boat, I wouldn't let it make a buying decision for me.

Having worked on both I would go with the SHO.

SHO. Had a 2011 and never had a problem with it, well expect for the prop shaft which was an operator error.
