Seeing that everybody is hush hush about fishing the beach. I will tell you that I wacked a bunch of Spanish macks at the Con brown harbor. I never seen macks so fare from the gulf. I went through a pound of dead shrimp in 2 hours I gave away 6 nice fish and released a few. I used a small wire leader with a 1/0 hook. No weight. Great fun on 10lb line

Smacks will go all the way up into the bay when the conditions are right.. caught some in san antonio bay a couple of years ago.
As far as fishing the beach.. i saw a good report of trout showing up on the beach... they are there but conditions to wade it have to be right.. need light north or clam 2 -3 days after a frontal passage this time of year. If the conditions are right...go for it. If not, the Jetties might be ok for some sheep heads or trout or reds there.
good luck
