Here's a photo of a female Pumpkinseed bream pattern done several weeks ago. Females have mostly whitish gill markings and spots while the male has the brighter neon blue markings. The red gill tab mark is there, just a little too small to show up well in this picture. The variety of coloration and stripe patterns on Pumpkinseed bream is amazing. You just have to pick a reference picture and go with it. In this attempt the Yellow Ochre wash muted the Raw Sienna spots between the stripes a little too much. Maybe a little more Orange mixed in with the Raw Sienna might fix that?? Keep thinking good thoughts.

I'm struggling to figure out which one is the bait and which one is real.

Thanks to all for the replies. Pumpkinseed patterns have so many spots dots and stripes its easy to get carried away. Tried to keep the colors used to a minimum and the stencil work as simple as possible. Used 10 different Createx Wicked colors and two over the counter stencils. Took about 6 hours to figure everything out and get it on a 2.5 lure blank. Couldn't even think about putting this pattern on a smaller blank...major migraine!

I keep coming back and looking at that. It really is something special.

Thanks for the positive comments. Personally I haven't fished it yet to see how it does on the lake. That pattern sells for a pretty good price...not sure if its going in a collection or in the water?? Either way is OK by me.
