Do you guys have any tips to keep from losing jigs to snags while fishing rocks? I caught a couple toads last night, but it cost me about 25 bucks worth of M-Pack jigs.

I fish rocks a lot, mostly on Ray Hubbard, but I gave up on fishing them with jigs. I lost 4 jigs on 4 consecutive casts, and decided to never try it again. As soon as a jig touches the rocks, it's wedged between them. When I want that kind of look, I fish a creature bait on a shakey head. Those are so much easier to shake loose and cheaper when they're lost.

I have found you have to get a feel for it, moving the jig just as it touches bottom, much like swimming it, keep rod tip high and fish it from shallow to deep.

You almost have to work the jig faster than it needs to be worked in order to keep it from getting stuck in the rocks. That's why I love crankbaits in the rocks.

I have started fishing rocks a lot more since I started using the Mark Pack jigs with the structure guard. I don't get hung up nearly as often with these jigs. Too bad I suck at fishing like this because I also don't hang up in the mouth of a bass very often.

yep. I have a spot I fish like this, as soon as you hit the bottom you are hung. I'ts cost me a lot of tungsten but I have figured out where the worst snags are and where I can drag it through with a lesser chance of hanging up. Like Happykamper said, the places where I know I will get hung, I have figured out the fall rate and when to hop it just before it gets hung. The best thing about a place like this is no one will fish it. I won a tournament on this spot before, it cost me about $75.00 in tungsten that day but won me a $1,000 check.

Use a lighter jig, and try an improved Arkie style jighead with a recessed line tie.

You must be one with the jig young grasshopper... azn feel it along and use the height of the rod tip to ease it over the rocks.

+1.....I was gonna suggest the Arkie-style jig...I'm gonna have to try some with the recessed line tie as suggested....anyone know if Mr Perry makes these?...or of a good one to try...

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll these a whirl. If someone could invent a jig that didn't get hung and rocks and could be worked slowly they would make a fortune!
