So, I have been fishing since I was pretty young but didn't start making it a full time hobby until recently. I'm from DFW originally but my career has me living in Corpus Christi for the time being. I'm in my second year of taking bass fishing a little more serious and as I am learning, without a a mentor or guide, it's a lot of trial and error which leads to a lot of frustrating outings.

I keep reading articles that suggest using the services of a guide. So, I'm wanting to see if you all have any experience with any guides this far South. I know that a day trip with a guide won't solve all the unknowns but I feel like I could learn a lot from one willing to share information. I guess it seems like a lot of the guides I find online are more for the experience of fishing rather than an informational session of fishing. I'd even be willing to travel a bit of need be. Thank you in advance for the advice!

Your biggest problem is that all the lakes in the south are tough due to years of drought. Chokes getting a little better; but it's still pretty dang tough.

What lakes are you fishing?

I have been mainly fishing Coletto. I've been to choke several times but I spend my entire day trying to make sure I don't destroy my boat on stumps. I have heard that Lake Mathis bass fishing isn't that great but I've only been on it once.

I have heard Coleto is dead, no grass and no current. You picked a bad time to learn.

Yes, the stumps at Choke are no fun.
