Aside from Ch. 16 which I know is for emergenies, are there any channels I should know about? Do they have a fishing channel or something just to talk to people with? And finally would I be allowed to talk on any of those channels, or do I need some kind of license?

A little background info:
I'll be using it on my kayak mostly in Galveston and Corpus Christi Bay.

Thanks!

My information is dated but you probably need a license to key up a VHF radio.

Go to 2coolfishing forum they have a thread on it, no lic required for water to water lic required for base station. I believe that is correct.
