A HUGE Congratulations to Andrew aka "Fitz" of Dallas Texas who fished Lake Dunlap today with myself and Mike,USMC-GY. We started out fishing the Comal River and caught some nice Red Spotted sunfish for Andrew's Aquarium. We also saw some very nice bass on nest but could not get any of them to bite. We then headed to Lake Dunlap and the bite was good. We caught Crappie and Bluegill. Andrew using his flyrod working against a very strong north wind was able to catch two Crappie. The biggest was 12.75"in length with a 10" girth. The official weight of the fish was 1.52 Lbs. This fish is not only the first flyrod Crappie Record for Lake Dunlap,it is the very first flyrod record for Lake Dunlap. The fly used was a craw fish fly. Paper work will be completed and sent to Texas Parks&Wildlife. Again a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew on some mighty fine fly fishing under some very difficult conditions. Meeting a super angler and helping him certify a record fish. It just don't get any better. fish

Awesome fishing and congratulations Fitz on your pending fly-rod record Crappie! Was the fly a sinking fly and how deep were the fish? Also what weight was the fly-rod you were using? Again AWESOME FISH under some very difficult conditions. Good job Sir!

Side Note: Looking forward to seeing the new additions to your aquarium!

I was using a 6wt with sinking line. My fly was between 8-10ft. . When I know fish are around I change things up when getting no bites. Must have fished 8 different flies in the 2 days on Dunlap. I would also change up the retrieve, short quick strips, long strips with a pause ect. It was obvious when I got the combination right because the fish inhaled the fly

Nice fish. Congratulations Fitz on your record and the first flyrod record on Dunlap as well!

Side Note: Chuck. How would you rate the Crappie bite on Dunlap compared to past years?

Dunlap has always had a fair Crappie bite. There are other places further down river that have pretty good bites. hooked
