If it has an automatic float switch, I would check that first.

my .02....

Throw that pump and float switch out... There are pumps with built in electronics that will turn on periodically and look for a "load" to determine if there is water or not. This prevents issues like what you are having or worse, a stock float when there is water that need to be pumped out.

The down side of pumps that turn on to look for a load is that they must be wired through a cut-off switch or they will eventually discharge a stored boat not on a full-time charger. That's old technology, too. The newer pumps with electronic floats trigger by capacitive-sensing when water covers two test points. Those pumps also have two "touch here" points a user can touch simultaneously to test the electronic float circuit, which has no moving parts that can get stuck.

have to disagree.... The pump only turns on for about 2 seconds then shuts off if there is no water.. also since there is no water there is no load... It would take MONTHS and MONTHS for that to drain a battery, which should be kept on a float charger anyway.

Some people don't want to keep a charger plugged in 24/7. They do burn down garages from time to time; I've seen several that happened to. Two of those were first-hand friends who provided feedback on cause of fire after investigation. Regardless, why buy a pump that cycles when there are other electronic-float pumps that DON'T have to cycle to discover water?

Mine has done this a couple of times only after being in real ruff water. The float would get stuck in the on position. I would disconnect the battery for a little bit and it would reset it self and work after that no problems.
