finally making the jump from fresh to salt. we are planning our first trip in new boat in mid april launching out of conn brown harbor. any advice on where we should go to get into some fish. not looking for anything particular me and my son just want to catch some fish. we have been fishing the pier for the last 3 years and taken a guide once. thanks for any advice.

hire a guide, he/she will show you the area and you will have tracks to use on your GPS and save waypoints to use in the future, go hop on 2cool and see if there is anybody who is willing to drink your beer and show you around

Steadman reef is close by. You can try drifting that area. Also, the Dagger area if you feel like making the trip down the ICW. Also, the old Navy pier goes deep up to a close flat with a short drift that works at times. You can also make the trip to Shamrock, but I'd consider putting in at the Ingleside ramp if I was making that trip.

It's really worth it.. you'll learn tons too. You might book a trip with Clint Smith who just posted up a special, Clint does well. See his post for contact info. Others are Levi Price and Kevin Shaw. Cant Jay Watkins is also a great teaching guide.

If you are above average freshwater fisherman there will be a lot of information that you'll be able to bring with you and apply, there will be some things that will take a learning curve and some tweaking. Learn what structure is and isn't in the bays, and learn to read the water or signs of fish presence and where they should be seasonally within your bay system and then you'll be on the right track. In the end you'll need to learn these things and have first hand information in addition to also going with guides and seasoned fishermen. There will be a learning curve.
