I'm in the market to buy a new trolling motor, i just don't know which to go with. I want one with an anchoring system for sure and that's the main thing. I've looked at both the Terrova and motorguide Xi5. I'm not hooking it up to my graph so the compatibility of that isn't a big deal.

I have a Terrova and love it but I would guess Motorguide is great as well. Opinions are going to be based on what each person currently owns.

I have heard the anchor system on the Xi5 is superior to the Minnkota.

I will be installing Xi5 this weekend,

The MG Xi5 will keep a tighter anchor by far.
The MinnKota has the option of a long shaft (72") and higher thrust power
The MK has a fancier remote
The MGs remote uses standard cheap AAA batteries
They both work great - even more options when hooked up to the graphs

If you need to park over brush and not move much -- Xi5 is the best choice

This plus the MK is reported to be more powerful. I got this info from a couple of reputable guides.

I've had both. Currently I have the MG and love it. If you use the foot pedal often you will like the MG better. It is also better at the spot lock. What I do not like is the fact that the remote does not have a digital read out showing the speed your on. Also the MG is slightly less powerful.

I've ran both...I prefer the Minnkota Terrova.

The spot lock is tighter on the MG but the Minnkota is more hearty...and is almost 1mph faster.

Go with the 112...and since u fish salt, go with the Riptide.

MG has an Xi5 for salt - but no built in transducer
Higher thrust and longer shaft will be your friend in high winds or rough water. Never heard none say I wish I had less power and since you can adjust the shaft height that's only an issue when it's stowed.
For the record - I have only hooked up an Xi5 to a graph......with the Xi5 hooked to lowrance you will get unlimited numbers of waypoints. Auto pilot feature - fine tuning of cruise control speed, shows which function the trolling motor is in and lots of features I don't use

MK has the follow a depth contour that MG doesn't have and probably all of the above but not 100% sure

The Ulterra looks awesome for the lazy fisherman
