Hey everybody, I have a question. I see people all over the board saying to fish shallow for cats right now. During other parts of the year, I see people say fish deep. I guess it usually goes without saying because most people already know, but could someone tell me how shallow "shallow" means?

Right now, my favorite fishing spot is a river that varies from about 3 feet to 15 feet. Is that all shallow? Should I be throwing into the 3 foot and neglecting the 15? I'm going for size if that helps you answer. This river doesn't produce Tawakoni-sized blues, but I've caught a couple 30lbers and several 20lbers and dozens of 5+ sized fish. I'd like a few more 30+lb fish and worry I might be casting over them by not just tossing out a few feet into the 3-5 foot water.

Thanks in advance.

shallow would be 0-6ft. mid depth 6-12. 12+ is deep and 30+ is summer deep.

Most people are talking about lakes when they say go shallow. A river that's 3 to 15 feet deep could hold them at any depth at any time, IMO. Just try different areas and see if you can find them.
