I just bought a kayak and plan on fishing the Brazos between PK and Grandbury. I have a 6wt and a 4wt plan on using the 6 mostly fishing for bass what size leader would be best. Thanks
Also if there is anyone that would like to go kayak fishing on the river give me a shout!

7x for sure lol jk 4 or 3 plenty of really good fish in that stretch for sure. It is definitely a random place to fish never know what you're going to set the hook on. I tend to target bigger fish in general I would probably go with 3X myself.

I just did the 20 mile stretch below PK. I just ran a 4-5ft straight piece of 8 to 12 lb, and had no problems catching bass. You definitely could go lighter, but bass aren't real leader shy.

I am with Robert, 3X would be good. We are targeting big striper when we go and fish 1X a lot of time.

You can throw a log chain at a bass and they will still bite, lol.

Generally I use a furled leader with about 4' of 8lb mono as tippet. It gets broken once in a while. 12lb would work just as well I suspect.

I'm with Lloyd.. I make and use a braid furled leader about 6 foot long and add tippet to suit the need. Lately I've used 8# Seagar fluorocarbon either single or doubled up for bigger flys and fish..

I just use straight mono for bass fishing the Brazos. Anywhere from 12-20#. Average length is 8-9'.

seagar seagar not the red label stuff insvisix yellow all the way! This is your absolutely best suggestion here for the line to fly. And that 8 pound is more like 12. Have hung up twice using 20 pound insvisix and once wrapped the line around a piece of drift wood and walked up the bank to A point I was scared if it came unhooked it would sink in the backside so hard I needed surgery. I finally waded out as far as I could and just cut it. The other was in the boat finally wrapped it around tie down and took off on Trolling motor nothing and cut it. Now if I fish the 20 I just get as close as I can and cut it and that stuff is absolutely invisible in the water. I wish they made 6x 3.2lb rio floro flex would leave my pack. Insvisix is high but dang you get 200 yards for 20 bucks vs 15 for 30 yards of rio.

Fishyb we still need to get together if you have not tried that invisix you really need to check it out! We target the same stuff and on the fly they make a 15 and there is no reason to put on any more than that or they might break your fly line lol.

I'm going to get some of that seagar in 12lb for tippet - maybe that will end the few breakoffs I get.

just make sure you get the yellow label insvisix not red. That stuff is hands-down the best stuff out there and it will take a beating before you even need to retie. Lol fishyb now that's funny on the good behavior!

I would also recommend the Seaguar fluoro. I've used the Invisix and the red label. Invizix is les stiff, red label is much stiffer. Depends on what you want to do. If you want to turn over a big heavy fly, the stiffer red label does the trick. Either choice is Way, way cheaper than buying 25 yard spools of tippet.
