Is there any tricks to catching bass in stock ponds? If there is any tricks could you please p.m them.

Keep way away from the bank. The fish could be right against it. And they, believe it or not, can FEEL you walking up. It will spook em. Also... Use a senko.

Throw crankbaits. They see less of them. You may lose some, but you will catch fish.

My "go to" baits for pond fishing in Texas have always been the original #11 balsa floating Rapala, using silver on clear days and gold when overcast, an a modified H&H Spinner on which I replaced the swivel with a ball bearing one, added a willow leaf blade, either a copper blade with purple reversed rubber skirt when overcast or a nickle blade and chartreuse/white reversed rubber skirt when clear. I twitch the Rapala on the surface a few times, pausing between pitches, and it nothing hits, I retrieve it fast and then stop it, fishing it like a jerk bait. The spinner gets me my best results by holding my rod high and reeling just fast enough for the bait to leave a wake on the surface without actually breaking through. These two baits have worked well for me in Texas ponds for more than 60 years - and still do. Jitterbugs have also been used to entice a strike or ten. If those three don't work for you, throw an unweighted, wacky-rigged, 5" Senko. Try watermelon, green pumpkin, or black/blue fleck. Just let it sink to the bottom and watch your like for a twich or it moving off to the side. If you see either one, set the hook. It it gets to the bottom, just let it stay there for at least 30 seconds. Then lift it about a foot or two and as it sinks back, shake your rod with the line slack. It'll make the worm jiggle as it falls. If that doesn't work, let it sit there another 30 seconds before reeling back in for another cast. The same baits and retrieves work extremely well on our big lakes, too, when the fish are shallow. What Steez posted is absolutely correct. You have to sneak up close to the bank and make long casts parallel to it when the fish are really shallow, because they're easily spooked. Good luck to you.

You've already gotten some great advice but here some thoughts -

For the next few weeks, I wouldn't cast any further than 3 feet off the bank. Cast parallel to the bank and not just once. Cast at least a couple of times over the same water. If you get a bite but miss the fish, cast back to the same spot.

If a lot of people fish at the pond, you might have to use something different to have a lot of success.

At dawn and dusk, try topwater baits - buzzbaits, poppers, tiny torpedos, etc.

It's hard to go wrong with a spinnerbait and a wacky rigged worm.

When it gets warmer, start fishing the deeper water.

Crankbaits will catch the little active ones, a senko will catch the bigger ones. Steez's advice was really good too - walk VERY softly. They will hear you as far as 30 or 40 yds away. I didn't believe that for years until I did a little experiment on my own. I went and bought 5 cheap little rope stringers. Went to one of the ponds I like in Lewisville, and caught 5 fish. I put each one of them on a stringer and tied them off every 20 yds or so. The I walked back to the truck and ate a sandwich.

Then I tried to get as close to the fish as possible without spooking them - I could never get closer than 20 yds without seeing the fish CLEARLY react to me walking up. They just start slowly swimming away from the bank. And I was being VERY quiet. I grew up hunting and I know how to tread lightly. . .and it didn't matter.

It's awkward and difficult to fish with 20 yds of line laying on the ground between you and the pond, but you will get WAY WAY more bites.

I use a white senko almost exclusively in the ponds around here and I rarely have trouble finding a bite.

Texas rigged Senko is my go to. I always start all my pond fishing with that. If possible and you have a small boat its best to sight fish in ponds. Most of the time you can criss-cross going from one side to the other to target the active fish. If you think you have on active I won't leave the spot till he's caught.

I love pond fishing and would gladly pay for the privilege anywhere near Rockwall. I am recently retired, as is my neighbor, and $20 each to bass fish would be great. Any contacts?
