Hi there,
I have a 1984 Bass Tracker III with a 50 Merc and I would like to catch some saltwater fish. I have lived in Texas all of my life but I don't know much about fishing in saltwater. My wife and I would like to go out and catch some arm breakers in the next couple of weeks. I would like to avoid getting into something the boat can't handle. We did have it out in the Atlantic a few miles a couple of years ago doing some mackerel fishing and light house chasing. The swells started to feel like we were about to bite off more than we could chew and we headed back to bar harbor.
We like the ocean and sailing but old trusty *my boat is a different story.
I have read about Rollover and East Bay in Galveston. Would these be good choices in March or early April?
Any recommendations on lodging would be great as well. Tight lines all!
Scott

Save your boat and trailer and hire a guide.

If you have a painted trailer it's dead when you stick in saltwater.

Skeeter and Pat are on the money.
But then again, if you've already dunked it, might as well have fun. I'd focus on east and rollover right now. You'll probably have to find a condo to rent on the beach on Bolliver. Trout have been on the shell (both shallow and deep), and on the mud shell mix shallow. Darker plastics on 1/8th ounce lead heads in shallow and 3/16th to 1/4 in 6-8 foot reefs. Topwaters like the one knocker in in bone are also great this time of year. Few reds mixed in as well.
That being said, treat your wife to a great trip and take her with a guide one of the days.. Spring fishing can be tough, the fish move a lot this time of year.
Contact Capt Steve Hillman, Capt Brent Juarez, Capt Caleb Harp ...it will be worth it.
