Planning to pick up some tile in Houston and haul it to Beaumont next week. My truck is a 2003 Silverado, 5.3 engine, 3.73 ratio, 125k miles. Will be towing tandem trailer with load of tile weighing 5,500 pounds. Can my truck safely handle this load? Will be on Interstate mostly....probably in right lane at 60 mph.

No problem at all. Take it out of overdrive and drive in the left lane at the speed limit.

Truck should tow that ok since it's flatland except for the Trinity River bridge. Only problem may stopping power. If the trailer has electric brakes be sure they are adjusted before you use it as they don't work if loose. b

No trouble at all. Like others said take it out of O/D and you are good to go. Pulled more than that with my 5.3 and I had 3.42 gears. Truck was made to do it keep a respectable following distance and I wouldn't worry about breaks our flatbed doesn't have em either.

Thanks for all the advice! No brakes on trailer, all tires are properly inflated, all lights work, floor jack inside truck along with chock, rope, tools, and ratchet straps. Ready to go....except for Houston traffic!

I made the trip with no issues and delivered the shipment of tile to my daughter and son in law's new home in Beaumont. Now to unload it....

It drove really good....better than I expected. This Chevy almost has too much power...lol...but probably won't get another GM(Govt. Motors) vehicle.

Exactly. The biggest problem people run into is not loading the weight over axles and it will handle better if the tongue is slighty higher than rear of trailer. This will help if not eliminate trailer sway.
