I have a 2006 Ranger Z21. I'm having issues with my compartments building up moisture when it's not raining or getting wet inside of them. I fished for 3 days at falcon an put all my rods in my rod boxes and headed home. 3 days later I opened my lids to my rod boxes to find moisture/ condensation on all of my rods and reels, with mildew starting to build up on all of my rods cork and foam. I know the new rangers have the new power ventilation system on the boxes but I can't find any info on how that actually works. I'm sure just leaving my box lids open for a little while once I get home would help but I really don't feel comfortable doing so in my driveway. I'm sure there is a easy fix for this and hopefully someone on here can help. On tackle warehouse they sell a little rechargeable moisture canister (H2Out space dryer). I feel like with as much moisture there was I'd need 10 of them, an constantly be recharging them in the oven. If that is my best option I will do that but hopefully some one has a better solution. Thanks for any help.

I'm thinking without spending big bucks on ventilation systems your best option is to open it all up when you get home. I've always done that with all my boats. When I get home from the lake I open every compartment. And if we have been tubing etc I hang up all the life vests etc outside. But I'm lucky to have a place I don't have to worry about theft. Sounds like that may be an issue for you.

I'm not worried about theft that much but I live on a caliche road with oil field traffic which covers everything I own in dust. If oil would ever get up an stay up I wouldn't have this issue and I'd just go buy a new boat!

you might look at putting one of these on the lids to add ventilation http://www.newproproducts.com/
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst

what about a small computer fan wired to a toggle switch? Get home plug the battery charger in and then turn on the fans. You'd be surprised at how much air they move and they come in pretty small sizes. just thinking out loud here.

Has this been going on ever sense you owned the boat? If it is not wet somewhere from fishing in the rain, then water is getting something wet somewhere in the boat. Maybe rain from a previous trip or driving through rain and just has not dried the carpet out good in the boxes??
Just looking for an explanation here for that much moisture. When things begin to mold there is something wet close by. I left the tarp on the boat for a couple of days after driving through heavy rain. When I took it off the whole carpet was white with mold. Never let that happen again.

It may seem like a crazy question, but are you pulling your plug and letting the boat drain on the way home?

It may seem like a crazy question, but are you pulling your plug and letting the boat drain on the way home? that was my question. Also any foam or carpet that was ever wet and not dried completely will keep building moisture when the humidity rises in those boxes.

I bought the boat a couple months back in excellent condition, not a scratch on the hull. I guess I need to check again.

To answer the plug question, yes I pull it every trip an there is no water. The plug was my first thought as well but when there's nothing that drained out made me think that the boxes built up condensation on their own.

Leaks that let in excess water aren't typically hull fractures. Think more sealer related such as rub rail joints. Is the carpet getting wet in any storage compartment? If so, spray from the planing hull could be getting in via an inadequately sealed rub-rail.
Most hulls have at least some ventilation for below deck spaces such as the rod box which may be open to the bilge via the bow area. Try putting a small personal AC powered fan in there to push air around - some will probably escape carrying moisture with it even with the lids closed. Are you parking it with the bow raised high enough to drain water from the bilge?
Bilge drains rarely drain every drop of water; some residual will remain in the boat. Here's a trick that often works to get most if not all of it out. Stuff part of an old cotton t-shirt into the drain plug so that several inches extends into the bilge and rests in the residual water, with the rest of the rag hanging out like a flag. Capillary action will likely drain every drop from the bilge in a couple of days.

I agree with the water getting in via the rub-rail. Open the boxes when the boat is outside in the sun before putting it up for storage. If the boat is stored in a storage unit, what is the humidity in the unit? If the air is full of water, the boat may not dry out quickly enough, even with fans.
