With the boat lined in what is semi-rough coating all over, I can only imagine that it will take its toll on my gear. Thinking of laying down some sort of material on the deck like 1/8" rubber in the area outlined in red or ????. Just curious what some others have used and what they used to adhere/attach it to the deck.

I think as long as you left the rods socks on while under way they would be all right. You might put a mat were the reels lay. to avoid scratching them up.

I would just put a piece of old carpet under the reels.

Old pair of socks w/ the toes cut out should do the job!

After fishing Palestine yesterday in 20mph winds, I understand your concern for the Ross. They WILL get cracked on edges of hard surfaces in rough conditions. I would do the carpet and add some straps.

Found some precut 1/8th inch rubber diamond plate used for step grips. Backed it with HD 3M tape and should have some T&H rod straps by the end of the week. I'll post some pics but about the closest thing I could do w/o buying a whole sheet of rubber or using another type of material. I'll post some pics once I get them installed. Appreciate all the feedback.

I know the straps will need replacing every couple years probably but decided on just using T&H tamers and the precut rubber I found at Home Depot. Almost $30 total. Havent wave tested it but should be ok.

I've had those straps before. They held up for many years. I never did have one break - I just finally replaced them to avoid additional risk that one might break at a bad time.

Yeah, took the rods right out of the box and just laid them up there for the pic. When fishing, they won't be on.
