New to fly fishing, looking to get into my first setup. No opposed to combo or a LA carte setups but budgeted between $150-250. Fishing for reds, trout in salt and heavy cats and reds in fresh. Throw any recommendations out there. Customer service for a company is 80% important to me for any warranty/service issues. Thanks fellas.

Honestly, a good 8wt isn't going to be cheap.

I think the TFO BVK is around the $250 new and the best value around.

I would look at used combos and/or see if somebody on here has one for sale if you are wanting to stay in that budget.

Sage Response 890. They are on clearance and can be had for about $250.

Check your post on the TKF. There were a few suggestions on there as well.

Sounds like me. I'm always looking for new fly rods to add to my arsenal. Haha.

Bass Pro in Grapevine has one Sage Response 9' 8WT on their sale rack. $270, marked down from $395. Comes with a hard case. They had two of them, I snatched one.

I have the Cabela's RLS 8 weight and it can handle some serious fish. I got my first striped bass on it earlier this year and I enjoy its strength as well as sensitivity. I have used a Sage rod and it handles just as good

seen some breaking issues with the bvk. The fantastic warranty does you no good on the water in the sticks though. This being said I would steer to the mangrove as well.

I've used the TFO BVK a lot, but the mangrove is everything I liked about the bvk and nothing I don't. I'd highly recommend the mangrove-- same price too.
