I thought a hybrid could not reproduce, like a mule. I caught one and it was full of eggs.

It will produce eggs but unfortunately they are sterile. At least that's what the biologists say.

Keep em tight!

From the hybrids perspective...it reproduces. Lol

Females have eggs...the boys...well yeah.

The whole process happens...just nothing does tho.

...if that makes sense, roflmao

I have been hearing, over the last few months, that some biologists are now saying they have seen evidence in certain lakes, under certain circumstances, that hybrids have somehow developed to where they are actually able to reproduce to some extent. I have seen eggs and sperm in hybrids for years myself. But always went with the specialists in this field who said it don't happen. I don't know how valid the statements are about them reproducing now.

I've seen them spawning. For some reason it just does not produce viable offspring for the most part.
Lake Palestine was not stocked for many years in a row, we still caught hybrids when there should not have been any left.

Hybrids are fertile. Reproduction has been documented. Palestine being one of them.

That is the time period I was referring to. I read another article that claimed hybrids can cross back with white bass ,

I guess like all species Hybrids have evolved into something different than they started out as originally being. They adapt just like any other species.

It's not that they evolved or anything has changed. They have always been fertile. The reason they have difficulty having a successful spawn has to do with their eggs. They aren't sticky like a whites whereby they would adhere to gravel and current flow would keep them oxygenated. And they aren't buoyant as a striped bass whereby they float in the current flow. Instead they tend to sink and get stuck in silt. They then suffocate and die. At least, that's what I'm led to believe from my reading.

The way it was explained to me was, If they do spawn, the results would be either a pure striper or a pure sandbass, but not a hybrid because a hybrid has to be made by biologists in the lab. Don't know if its true or not.

Sounds to me if the eggs were to suffocate that they could simulate a hatchery setting where that would allow the eggs to hatch. TPWD still uses stripers and white bass to reproduce the restocking brood. If the hybrids could reproduce I would believe the TPW would be gathering male and female hybrids for the restocking of lakes. Of course some financial considerations maybe involved as well

They have been able to successfully spawn them in the lab & it has been documented in the wild. That was mentioned in the article I referred to.
