I have a 2001 VMax 200 hp trying to remove the lower unit to change the impeller. I removed all 8 bolts but can get the lower unit off. Tried working it back and forth but wont budge. Any suggestions?

Did you remove the tab just above the prop? There is a bolt there that is hidden under the tab above the prop.

Sure did, got the one on top under the rubber stopper as well. All 8 bolts are out. I can put some muscle into it and get the lower unit to seperate about 1/32" but that's all. I have owned the boat 4 years and its never been changed so I'm guessing its frozen together.

Well, I found the last bolt. There are a total of 9 bolts you have to take off including the one on the trim tab. If you are going to replace an impeller, buy the stainless steel collar and plastic lock washer when you buy the new impeller, for some reason these don't come with the "kit". Cut the SS collar off and save yourself some time and a few busted fingers.

You Tube makes it look easier than it actually is. My impeller hasn't been changed in over 5 years I'm guessing so things don't come apart like they show on You Tube, I wish they did. The SS retaining ring is the hardest part. I destroyed mine. Have to wait until Monday to get go buy a replacement. Won't be hard next time after I know to buy the plastic and stainless retaining rings in addition to the impeller and to cut off the stainless ring if it doesn't come off easily.
