I had a 2014 22' majek extreme w/ 250 SHO. Probably as close as you can get to a dual purpose boat. It sounded like a good idea at the time because every now and then (once or twice a year) I like to saltwater fish. I sold it after just a few months and went back to a bass boat. The center console acts like a sail in the wind, storage is subpar and the length coupled with the center console catching the wind it was hard to control both offshore and in the shallow water. Also, first tournament I weighed a dead fish because I dont think the livewells are as good.

If they weren't so proud of them I may have bought a intracoastal but opted for a bassboat and will just hire a guide for saltwater stuff.

My .02.

Ikelevi, I just picked up my 22 Epic yesterday, to me I looked for the bay boat that resembles the decks on a bass boat, and the Epic in my opinion is that. I have not fished it yet having to break it in, but I have had a 18 foot bass boat forever
and now I feel I could throw parties in this thing. I think I'm going to love it especially when there is more that 2 people. I live on Fork so 98% of the time it will
be fish here. I will say I went to Houston boat show to look at all the bay boats offered and what I did and did not like, that's advice I would give you for sure.

I bass fish out of a Skeeter ZX22 Bay Boat and have no problem at all. I have had several bass boats but being able to get up and walk around is great and at 71 getting up from the console of a bass boat was getting harder every year. Would not go back to a bass boat. I have a Ulterra trolling motor and it will hold me in the wind and with hyd. jack plate I can float it in 1' of water.

I have been bass fishing out of my center console for the last 4 years and won't go back to a conventional bass boat. The biggest advantage for me is how easy it is to move around the boat. I am 65 and not quite as nimble as I used to be so now I just stand up and move to either side of the console which is much easier. Depending on what center console you get storage can be an issue and wind does affect some boats more than others. Low profile bay boats and flats boats are not affected by the wind nearly as much as taller offshore boats.
As far as pure fishing goes I'd take a center console any day. I can literally fish from any position on this boat, bow, sides or stern. On a bass boat you are pretty much forced to the bow or stern. Landing fish is also much easier due to the 360 degree access.

Ive had my 16' Sea Ark CC alum for 10 years now, got it when I live on the coast at 19 years old. Ive got it outfitted pretty well, I think. Done all sorts of upgrades and changes to it over the years. Painted it in 2012 and threw down some rhino liner (I like it but it gets hot). New engine in 2008, Yamaha 50TLR.

I couldnt get rid of it if I wanted to, too many memories. I also duck hunt religiously during the winter and without this boat I would be severely limited. On the coast it was great, as I mainly wadefished down there and it was a glorified taxi. Can run on plane in <12", and idle in less, and will float and push in less than that. Fab'd a duck blind for it, too.

Sea Ark 1652 PCC
-Yamaha 50TLR w/ Jackplate. 36mph max (slow compared to the cadillacs)
-Minn Kota Maxxum 65 24v
-Lowrance HDS 5 up front
-Humminbird 598 ci si hd at the console. (Dont recommend it, screen too small)
-30 gal livewell w/ 800gph fill, 500gph aerator pump
-bilge pump
-Led interior white lights, Led red/green running lights

It fishes well, just pretty limited in anything around or over 15mph wind. I will cross rough water but its hard to control the TM in very much wind.

The ride in really any chop is not for the faint of heart.
ZERO storage.

Those are my only complaints. I love my boat. Ill get a legit bass ride in a year or two, but ill keep this one.

we fished with a guide a couple years in a center console with a big canopy. the boat itself was fine but that dang canopy was a pain with 3 people trying to cast for bass. it was bad enough that i wasnt going back with him if he kept that boat...

I fish out of a 21' Robalo CC with a large T-top. It doesn't affect my casting at all, but people that aren't aware of they're surroundings would have issues. The same boat w/o the T-top would not affect anyone's casting. I use an Xi5 trolling motor and can control it from anywhere in the boat wirelessly and anchor with one button push. I like the layouts of bass boats, but I am a multi species angler and carpet is not compatible with my fishing 12 months out of the year. My boat has an extremely deep V, but can still draft in 12-14". It also handles rough water better than any bass boat I've ridden in. If you are on the fence, I'm sure there are plenty of people that would be happy to take you out in their boat to get an on the water opinion. I don't see myself ever owning anything but a CC or possible a deep V aluminum like a Lund when I stop going to saltwater.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it. I'm going to check on a 05 Kenner Vision 1800 this weekend. Think it's a better fit for family and multi-species than my bass rig.

I bought a used hewes redfisher and mostly bass fish out of it. The "florida" type bay boats do better in the wind. They also tend to have gunnel rod storage so your rods aren't in the way.

If you are a serious dedicated bass fisherman you loose some speed in most center consoles and it's not as easy to have 2 dozen fishing rods on the front deck. I'm a weekend guy with 6 rods and so far I love the boat.

I fish out of a Scout 192 Sportfish.. basically a flats boat with some bass boat features. Its center console with a 48Q cooler in front of the console then a small casting deck in the front with a seat. There is a much larger casting deck in the rear also with a seat. I have a Yamaha OX66 150hp outboard and a Motorguide GW82 trolling motor that is stick controlled not foot controled.
I love this boat for fishing. I don't need the big deck in front since I sit when I fish soft plastics,. which is most of the time and I stand when I crank. It only draws 10" of water so I can get to some skinny spots on the lake without worrying too much about grounding it. With just me in it, it will run 50mph which is fast enough for me.
Its all good as far as I'm concerned.

I got sick and tired of the rough ride bass boats offer. I have owned 9 different bass boats and riden in many others. They are very capable machines, but I don't care what anybody says - the rough water ride is not good no matter what brand it is. Out of all I have owned, the 521 Ranger was probably one of my most favorite all around,

This time around I went with a center console setup specifically for bass fishing. It handles rough water like a dream and had yet to have any challenges due to the larger size. Here is a pic and video of what I had built. You do not have to go as extreme as this and you will still be very happy. There are a lot 22-23 foot bay boats out there with the bubble style center console.
