Keep an eye on the rod building sections of the various fishing and boating forums out there. Forum rules here at TFF prevent posting links or names to those forums, but there are a few, and equipment pops up from time to time.

If just looking for a hand wrapping station and/or drying set-up, either can be made at home for a fraction of the price.

Myself, I just bought a hand wrapping kit from mudhole this past winter to get started building rods. Mudhole has a turnkey kit that will come with a pre-selected spinning or casting rod kit, and it is pretty reasonable for what you get. I built their kit right away to get a better idea of the process, then after building a couple more rods, and doing a much better job, I tore down their kit and rebuilt it to get a taste of doing repairs.

I too eventually would like to make this into some sort of business, but I have a long way to go before I can compete with a lot of the custom builders out there. I have thoroughly enjoyed landing fish on rods I built myself though. I find it on par with reloading my own ammo and assembling my own hunting arrows. My wife says it's the control freak in me, coming out.

It is a rewarding hobby so far, time will tell if it ever turns into anything more than another hobby.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I have a friend that wants to sell his rod rapping equipment. He has a complete set with much of the supplies to build rods. I don't know the price but if you call me at 903-850-8292 I will put you in contact with him.
