Lake Texoma is starting to produce again! It's been a long, not so cold, and lonely winter here for me and most of my guide buddies, but it looks like things are finally starting to turn the corner. Since the flood last year the fishing has been tough unless you fished the river like I did most of last year. This winter I have only been taking the most die hard customers I have and it hasn't been easy. Most trips I took caught a dozen or less on the lake from mid December Until the last couple weeks. I haven't posted all winter because there hasn't been much to post and I didn't want to paint a negative picture that might hurt my fellow guides and my own business. We lost a lot of fish down the river last year and though it may take a while for the lake to fully recover Lake Texoma is on the mend and fish are starting to bite. This week I've had a couple trips that caught over 100 fish and though most are sand bass and small stripers we are all happy to see some good action and positive signs for our future. The water is clearing up good and the lake has more bait than I've seen in 25 years of fishing here. The gill net surveys haven't officially been released but I heard that it's better than expected and hopefully in a few months we will be able to put the flood behind us and things will get back to normal. I know my wife will be happy because she's not used to me being around the house so much even though she probably appreciated the help and I enjoyed the time I got to spend with my 2 year old son. If you have been waiting to book you should get your trip planned soon. I have some openings next week and I have a few weekend dates left over the next couple months but my phone is starting to ring again. I turned away a lot of trips this winter but I'm catching again and things look brighter by the day. Get up here and let's go fishing. It's been a great couple of weeks here on Lake Texoma.

Survey is released and there has been stripers caught this winter smile last week it turned to all sand bass as the stripers are spawning but 2 weeks ago was good on big striper then "poof" glad u back in on the lake and lots fish left to catch but it's been a tough go some days. If ya remember this not the first time weird stuff has happened and Mother Nature just been a ruthless b#*ch this last 9 months

If so many fish were lost over the dam is it wise to keep to fill the ice chest with fish until they recover a bit?

There are lots of fish left on Texoma. Most of the fish we are catching are sandbass right now and it's not gonna hurt the population to keep some. I would be reluctant to keep any large stripers right now as I want them to spawn but biologists say the numbers are still good.

John, glad to see you're still around! I hadn't seen you in your boat below the dam for some time and was wondering what happened to you. I'm the fly fisherman in the float tube.
