The original trailer that came with my Skeeter ZX22 bay boat had to be declared DOA. I just put new tires on the darn thing hoping it could hold out for another season or two. The previous owner did not take very good care of the trailer and it literally rotted away from salt water. Several components were substandard also and that did not help the cause very much. Was going to cost several thousand to fix when all was said an done.

I looked at several manufactures/reviews/customer feedback. I went with Tex All Aluminum Fabrication. The large salt water boards have nothing but praise for workmanship and high quality.

Anyone else have a trailer made by Ty at Tex All?

Should be only a couple of weeks for my trailer to get built. I'll get some pics posted when I get it.

I got quotes from three other manufactures. Price range was between $3225 - $3895. The one I went with was $3,550 + I paid $300 extra for the extended fender steps. My fishing bud is a big fat @zz and I don't want bent fenders. Ty said it is worth the additional cost. I did not get brakes with mine either. Tex All standard features are add-ons for other manufactures.

I urge you to shop around, get quotes and research. I would be curious who you would choose.

Woooaaahhh, you didn't get trailer brakes? A 22' bay boat would have to put you at the 4500 mark with the trailer.

Agree with grout - I wouldn't have got a trailer without brakes for towing a 22' bay boat.

I don't see how it will pass inspection, unless the new trailer is super light. I know the aluminums are lighter but still I think the tax office will yank you around.

I own a 22ft bay boat. The tandem axle aluminum trailer is rated at 4450. Does not have brakes. A lot of trailer manufacturers are doing this to throw that law out the window. My trailer is built and capable of carrying 5000+ but they rated it at 4450 on purpose. I don't have to get it inspected. Besides, my total loaded out weight is 3900lbs. Drive smart with a load like that and a truck that can handle it and you will have no issues.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

I read if the trailer is over 4500# rating it has to be inspected, maybe he is under that rating?

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst

Already checked this out in depth since I have suffered the license issue in the past. The certificate of origin that will be provided will show the trailer details. Trailer is rated for under 4500 pounds so breaks not required and an inspection is also not required. My current trailer does not have breaks, does not require an annual inspection and it's not an issue. The original trailer, according to the registration, is rated to carry 3,000 lbs. It's a Skeeter, not a Ranger wink.

I'll double back and confirm today. Thanks for the heads-up!

Good deal, I guess manufactures are finding ways around the inspection now. I'm still surprised there were no factory brakes, even my 18' skeeter bassboat has a hydraulic brake.

I tow my rig with a 2500 Suburban. I have already had a few stupid people test how fast I can stop. Driving in San Antonio: it's not if you have been in a wreck but when you will be in a wreck. Look left, look right, look forward, look backward. One of those people do not have insurance. Believe it!

He did mine about 1 1/2 years ago and did a super job. I would highly recommend !!

Our boat is 24' and while it has surge breaks we disabled them. You couldn't back it up the drive or into the garage without them locking up on you. Poor design and not really needed. If people would drive responsibly it wouldn't be a big deal.

catsalesman,

Sweet looking rig there! I am glad you recommend Tex All. I read for hours and hours about all the manufactures within 400 miles of San Antonio. I could not find any real complaints about Tex All. If anyone had a problem, he fixed it fast and is was hush-hush on the Internet boards. Nothing wrong with that really.

Another thing, Ty at Tex All was always professional in his critiquing other manufactures when folks were having problems. He explained the why and how to possibly fix their problem.
