I've never been too good at crappie fishing but I decided to focus most of my fishing energy on crappie this year and give the sandbass a little break. I love to tinker with stuff (taxidermy, reloading, mechanicing, ect.) so I thought it'd be more fun if I tied my own jigs. I went to crazy angler and got enough supplies to get started. Here was my first jig

Here's what I got done that evening.

I really did enjoy it, but I ran out of colors! I got back on crazy angler and ordered lots more colors. I experimented with the guinea feathers in the bottom left. Not real sure what to do with those lol. Anyways, I learned a lot from reading on here even though I don't post much (what little I have is in the whit bass/hybrid section) and I appreciate all the info y'all put out there. Can't wait to feel the thump on these!

Not sure how to rotate pics sorry

Oh and yes I know I got the light and dark sides wrong on the two toned jigs. I kept forgetting the jig is upside down in the vice! blush

Thanks guys. Anybody mess with the guinea feathers? I just got a little of everything and don't know what to do with them, but don't want them to go to waste. Share pictures if you've ever used them please.

I got a few from a good friend a few months ago & just haven't found a good tie for'em yet.....
I'd be interested if someone uses them to see what they're making too....

The Ginuea hen feathers have the great little eyes on them I seem to recall. I used them long ago on Salmon flies.

Warning! Ah too late! Ordering from Crazy Angler is horrible! The great prices and stupid fast shipping will make you place an order without even thinking twice! I placed a nice sized order one day and forgot an item, called back an hour later and my package was already shipped! He said he'd ship the other item for free! Horrible! Hehe, yup, you can tell I love Crazy Angler banana going to check out their website, probably will get "horrible" service again!

For your first one they look just fine! Good job!

Guinea feathers I have some experience with. You can tie a jig with one as a tail tied flat or you can use 2 opposed that are same feather from opposite sides of the bird as a tail. I have got so that if I tie one I just tie it flat.

Like this one.... http://thumpitjigs.com/images/DSC05654.JPG

Or this.... http://thumpitjigs.com/images/Captured_2006-12-16_00011.JPG

Or you can even do one like this, but these after I tie them I use flexible glue to coat both sided next to the stem to help keep the two tips apart?... http://thumpitjigs.com/images/Captured_2007-5-23_00007.JPG

I have not tied many in a good while, but use to tie a lot and that last one was very good jig and caught lots of fish.

Yes, I am very happy with Crazy Angler's service. My new order should be in today. Can't wait to try some new color combo's.

The guinea feathers are great for tying bug jigs. If you look the feathers over you will see what I mean. They are very good on small weights to get slow fall jigs. The white crappie will take them but the black crappie will tear them up. What Skip said, you do need some glue for sure.
