Ran boat yesterday, seemed to run fine except smoked a lot when idling/just above idle in drive. When running higher RPM, no excessive smoke. Had it up to 45 mph and no knocking, no unusual sounds, acceleration was normal.

Today went to take boat out and it had *hemmorraghed* oil. See pics. It is unburned, regular 2 stroke oil. Not lower unit oil or oil/gas mix. Looks fresh as it can be. Appears to have leaked down from where the midsection meets the motor. Ran down the motor to prop shaft, all over transom saver, etc. I did not mess with running it today for fear of ruining the motor.

This is only my 2nd time using it so while I am pretty sure this isn't normal, I wouldn't know.

I'm hoping this is just a loose connection and not a bad oil injector, headgasket issue, or worse.

The inside of the engine (under the cowling, at least) looks completely clean.

Has anyone seen this before?

You most likely have a cracked oil line. Bottom cowling and air box will have to be removed so you can find the leak while motor is running on a hose.

thanks Gary. Does this sound like something a non-mechanic could handle?
