Sand Bass fishing is super at PK right now. I know the metro lakes are muddy but PK is clear. I crossed Bridgeport on the way to the Lake house and it looked like my coffee in the morning when my wife's not looking and I can put enough cream in it. That gal is determined to make me live too long and end my life in dementia care.

I have no idea how many sandbass I caught yesterday. 40-50 or even more. I didn't really want to keep any, as I had just prepped the garden and my back was sore and I was tired. But I kept pulling up these big fat 14-16 inch fatties so I put them in the box. Haven't counted yet but I think I kept about a dozen. Caught a few on chartreuse wildeyes but I kept marking these massive schools of fish and wasn't getting fast enough response from them so I changed to a small white fat free shad bomber with a 1/4 oz chartreuse roadrunner with a white and chartreuse trailer and that did the trick. Water Temps were about 61/62 so I figured they might chase that crankbait and I was right. I trolled through the school and had one on every hook. Spot locked the boat and caught double after double casting through that school. Two of those big sandies almost make you think you have a striper.

Sorry for the sub par pic. I'll take a better one and update later when I clean these guys.

Here's a better pic of some of these footballs I was catching.

Bazos Bass Cat I was fishing in Neely Slough but that's just because I have a house there. Randy Wood gave me 60 sand bass for my Garden that came from cedar creek. I bet every creek on the lake is full of them

It was a hoot Joe. Two of those footballs on at the same time almost feels like a striper. Only downside was I was by myself. had the pastors son with me last week and we caught 6. Yesterday he could have caught them until he got tired which would be a while for a 14 year old.

I jigged around for crappie allot but didn't get a nibble. I'll get some minnows next week and try here at PK. Water is very clear here and you can see the bottom in about 8-10 feet. hard to fool those sharp eyed crappie in water like that. Maybe Ray Bob will clear up some soon so I can get some crappie.

Nice Catch! We laid into them today by Costello Island. Mostly 11" fish that all went back in the lake. Lots of fun though.

I hear you on that TCK73. Last thing I want to do is clean a limit of 11" sandies. and trim off all that red meat. Too much work. Once the sand bass get to about 14 inches they really make a much better fillet.

PKfishing ...........the last of May I am going to take a 3 day trip to either PK or Texoma for white bass and stripers.Since you fish both lakes, which do you recommend ????? For years I have been going to Texoma and consider myself a pretty good white bass and striper fisherman with the boat, electronics, and all the equipment. I am aware of the problems Texoma has had.Hope to hear from you.

Very nice catch right there. And thanks for the cool write up. That makes the rest of us wish we were there right now and not working!

Cedar pollen is gone. In March the main issue is wind. Next week we'll have 20 MPH + wind most of the week. Always like that in march and early April.

Old Coach: Both lakes have taken a beating from the big rains last year. By the end of May the weather will be hot and sand bass fishing will be hit and miss. It will be Striper time. The reports from Texoma on the Six Ole geezers site is that striper fishing is way slow on Texoma. The lack of reports on this forum from texoma guides confirms that in my opinion. I'll know more about Texoma when I start fishing up there in April. Until Texoma warms up fishing up there is just too tough for me.

At PK, last year I had to switch to live shad to catch any keeper stipers. I fished all summer and fall using live shad and caught a few. Only two fish over 10 LB. The year before the rain I could catch that every trip at magic point using lures. There's a lot of shad in the lake right now. Once they spawn there will be even more. If you are good at catching shad, that will be the way to go. if not, I'd try to swing a guide trip with Randy Wood or one of the other guides for at least one day of your visit just so you can get some tips on where the bait and fish are at. PK is a huge lake and you can sure spend a lot of time looking for fish in empty water. Last year I took a trip with randy and we caught more keeper size stripers than I did the rest of the year.
