I've always defended any local tackle supply because we really need every one of them.
However, watch them on marine and outboard parts and their prices.
I was in yesterday to pick up some tune up parts for my Mercury. They didn't have the spark plugs I needed, no biggie, OReily's did. I bought Gear case lube and a fuel filter. She rings it up $82 bucks. I asked how much was the filter - $56.00. Can you double check that? Yep, $56.00.
I checked Amazon, same OEM Mercury filter is $11.50.
Might check anything you might need on the internet ahead of your visit. Might save you some time.

Local repair shops in D/FW will do the same thing, they mark up the product a lot..........

That's ridiculous, I would've called her out on it. Sounds like a good place to use those price barcode scanning apps.

Oh, they're getting it back, with an explanation.

If local retailers/dealers/repair shops would not price gouge the chances we would shop locally greatly increase. A local shop that has minimal inventory with 2X pricing is no longer going to make it.
Since I am on the topic - Tackle Addict in Onalaska, TX is a very good tackle store with TW pricing levels. They have a web site but I have only shopped in the store so I can not comment on delivery times & shipping prices.
On the other hand, I am constantly disappointed in Toledo Town tackle with their high prices and lack of inventory with the good stuff. This store has progressively gotten worse over the years for tournament fisherman. I am sure they are ok for the guy from Ohio on a one week vacation to Toledo Bend.

I've been buying all my parts off Amazon for the boat I'm fixing up. Saved me $40 on the water pump kit and nearly $50 on the hydraulic steering seal kit.
They keep running off all their good vendors... seems they are more interested in pushing a couple of bait companies that give them a tournament jersey and some free baits instead of trying to be an all inclusive one stop tackle shop and offering a wide variety.

That's ridiculous, I would've called her out on it. Sounds like a good place to use those price barcode scanning apps. Why would you call out the cashier ? She has nothing to do with the prices set by corporate. The correct thing to do, would be to speak with the store manager and voice your concern(s) with them and follow up with a letter or email to corporate.

Did you not check the price first?

I like the convenience of BPS but lately have been noticing how much more they mark things up. I don't really like mail order much but I have started pricing things out with other local stores like Academy. A $10 item at Academy can be like $30 at BPS for the identical product.
My wife used to like to give me BPS gift cards. I told her to stop. I only shop there when the item can't be bought somewhere else. I understand they are in the business to make money but so are the other stores that charge a reasonable markup and don't have the volume to buy at discounted prices. BPS makes less money from me because of this practice.

I thought bps would price match? That's what they told me when I was looking for a specific nmea2000 part.

That's ridiculous, I would've called her out on it. Sounds like a good place to use those price barcode scanning apps. Called out the cashier for the outrageous price? WTF are you talkin about? That girl at the register doesn't even know what the part is and has nothing to do with the price. If you feel the need to harass someone, at least harass the manager, not the girl whose making $9 an hour.
