No one is disputing weight slows you down Ken. But a Triton TR21 w/250XB and three people in it that's only able to run 64 mph....there is something wrong with it besides weight. I can assure you that I can run faster than 64 MPH with two people in mine and both livewells full and it will run faster than 64 with three people in it. Also....Keep in mind the Older TR's hull weight is lighter than most newer boats.

I ride in a ton of very fast boats. Very few people drive them very fast. I ride in a few very quick boats, and those guys explode put of every single spot they are in, and cruise at same averge speeds as the guys who are running "the hottest setup" and have "80mph+" rigs.

90% of anglers probably spend more time accelerating and cruising below vmax than pushing the limit of their rigs 95%+ of the time they are on the water. Keeping up with the Jones's is for checkbook warriors and dudes in free boats... And I'm not certain I have ever seen the fastest boat at the ramp win at weigh in bolt

Randy Howell won the classic in the fastest boat at the tournament;). So there you go...

But not because he had the fastest boat. From memory on his last day he went from back in the pack to the front when he turned around and fished a bridge on a hunch.

I would have thought the boat should go faster with 700 pounds of people but I don't doubt that Ken knows what he's talking about. I've several of his boats and him on the lake over the years. He knows what he speaks of. His 2002 with a Merc Drag was scary just looking at it.

I agree it has the potential to run faster than 64 with three guys loaded but there again, it's all about his setup. That XB is a hoss. It probably makes 270 hp but without seeing his boat we can only speculate about how it should perform.

And yes Allison 1 that 02 I had with the Merc Drag motor was seriously legit. It would pull a gps to 117 with me solo. With three folks in it and the TM and three batteries it would still run 105. Hows that for lost efficiency?!! But I ran a 30 pitch prop to go 117 and I ran a 24 Lightning ET at 9700 rpm for fishing. It was a hoot!!

i dont know if 64 is about right or not but how long has it been sense you have checked your air filter cleaned/tuned your carb and changed your spark plugs those kind of things can affect the performance of any motor old or bad fuel can have a big affect too

I have owned a lot of Tritons too, and there are differences in hulls based on which mold they came out of. No one has asked, what this boat ran when it was new, or what it runs now with only the driver and running light. The guy obviously isn't too speed conscious if he doesn't even know what prop he's running. You're talking about a fifteen year old boat. They do slow down.

Have the biggest guy out of the 3 check to make sure the tm is secure before you take off to the next spot. Once he's up at the bow drop your throttle and let her rip! That should add a few MPHs to your rig.

I would bet the 230 average per person a little low. Also stop trying to find excuses to buy another boat.

I just don't see the point in arguing or worrying about a few MPH. If you are hitting you proper RPM's and the motor sounds good and runs smooth it is fine. There are too many variables that can affect top end speed, as you can see by looking at this post. It sounds like you are getting on plane and running just fine to me. Could you tweek it a little and get a few more MPH? probably so, but for what?

But that isn't what you stated. You said you have never seen the fastest boat at a tournament win the tournament. I said Randy Howell won the classic in the fastest boat in the Elites.

I don't care what Ken has owned. I know what mine and several others will run right now today...loaded down. Something more than weight is wrong with a Triton TR21 with a 250XB that won't run but 64 mph with three people. That I can assure you. Something isn't right.

My occupation is to make things run fast. I know what it takes;)

Howell has the fastest elite boat? I saw John Crews in an Eyra at the classic. Just saying. Also I just dont understand how you can make an assumption on his motor having an issue when you dont know Propshaft to Pad measurement, what prop he is running, or prop condition. duel
